Is the perlite used in roofing insulation the same as potting perlite? I can take some pics if you arent familiar with the product.

I believe at some point in the process the perlites are the same, but the perlite used in roofing gets processed differently from the horticultural perlite used for gardening.

Basically, its the same. But construction perlite may be out of ph (rinse it very well) and usually is of lower diameter than horticultural grade perlite.

The lower diameter means higher water retention ability and lower air retention, resulting in the media being far worst for growing. If you want to use perlite to increase the aeration of a mixed media, then you need horticultural grade perlite or class A construction perlite (that with the higher average diameter).

For using the perlite as alone media, always you rinse it well, you can use the construction perlite, but you need to water it less than a horticultural grade one.
