Question Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Soil

After having been to every Lows, Home Depot, Sam's, and Wall Mart within a 20 mile radius, I have come to realize there just isn't a good selection of organic soils in my area The only thing I could find even slightly close to what I need is "Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Soil." Now, I know alot of MJ growers cringe at the mere letters MG, Lol..But I think if add a little perlite for drainage, this stuff could work out..The soil itself seems to be pretty neutral in NPK, and has no artificial additives.

Here is what the ingredients on the back of the bag say:

This product is regionally formulated with organic materials (derived from one or more of the following: forest products, peat humus, or compost) sphagnum peat, composted manure (in Florida, cow manure) and pasteurized, pelleted poultry litter.

In California and Texas, regionally formulated from forest products, compost, sphagnum peat, composted manure and pasteurized, pelleted poultry litter.

Guaranteed Analysis:

Total nitrogen (N) – .10% – (This product contains .097% slow available nitrogen.)
Available phosphate (P2O5) – .05%
Soluble potash (K2O) – .10%

I was wondering, has anybody used this stuff w/success? I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, and quite frankly don't have the $$ to have my soil shipped to me. Hopefully, I can make this stuff work. So, what's good with the Organic Choice? Good, bad? I'd really appreciate any input!!

I've used it. Worked fine. Just dont feed the plants until they show signs of needing it.

My personal preference was always Sta-Green All Purpose Potting Soil. Mix 5:1:1 with perlite and vermiculite and it was good to go.

Sweet. Yeah, I was thinking about adding a little vermic for moisture retention. I've heard the organic choice dries up pretty hard..Thanks for the reply bro Now then, I will be transplanting 4 week old plants into 5:1:1 with perlite and vermiculite. Supplemented w/nute teas when they need it. I expect things will work out just fine..I'll let you know how it goes

It sucks, sorry, I've used it though. My advice is go 70% soil, 25% perlite, only 5% vermiculite. ( I used 2 parts soil , 1 part perlite, 1/3 part vermiculite)MG will stay waterlogged a long, long time if you have a plant stall. It resists watering, water pools up on top. If you have a nute sensitive plant, it may be overnuted from day one, as it's pre-fertilized.
But it will work, if you have no alternative. 25 or 30 bucks at the hydro shop can be hard to swallow, but you can grow a lot of pot with a bag of Fox Farms or something else good.

MIRICAL GROW & ORGANICS? Is someone taking the piss? mirical grow was owned by ICI Chemicals and the company who baught it may well be a subsiduary of ICI,but i've been wrong b4.I've not looked at the product, but being an organic gardener, any mirical grow product or any big chem companies get the thumbs down from this cultivator...good luck if it's realy organic, but nothing beats worm carts, leaf mulch, homemade potting soil, comfrey, borage and anything that comes out of an organic farms animals butt...Bng

Are you sure it's that bad? I hear alot of mixed reviews on this stuff..This guy
got 3 zips from one plant, grown in MGOC with a 250w HPS. Seems like a pretty decent harvest to me! Fox Farms would be optimal..then again, I'd rather not pay the extra $$ just for a brand name. I mean, exactly how much better can FF really be? It's just dirt..As long as I mix in a lil perlite/vermiculite, I think I'll be alright w/just supplying nutes in tea form. As for it over-nuting my plants, I have 2 10 day old seedlings growing in MGOC as we speak, with no visible burn or leaf curl yet. 4 week-old plants should do just fine in it

Something tells me you weren't able to read this being completely neutral

Please, if you don't have anything worth contributing to the thread..don't reply.

wwwDotBong is growing every day.wwwDotBong is growing every day.

It was relevent to me,After the bad press that MG has gotten in the past. Don't forget that the word organic has a wide meaning in the industry.they say that the food we buy that is claimed to be organic is GM (GENETICALY MODIFIED) Free may contain up to a certain percentage of GM produt in it.The same is also relavent to organic soil mixes that don't carry the relavent certification on the bag (and this too is subject to the same problems) So b4 you think i'm not saying anything constructive in a post,do a little research and then reply to a post of mine.I'm just trying to point out the pitfallsof the industries labeling of gardening products..peace BNG

I think the stuff is great for seedlings. It is very light and fluffy, just add some perlite for drainage and you are good to go. However it will not sustain plant life for a couple of weeks like other organic soils do. After 1.5-2 weeks your plants will be screaming for food b/c their wont be any left in the mix. But overall it is a great neutral soil that should not burn the seeds!

FoxFarms is just full of much more organic goodies that the plants will eat on for awhile. It is also a little hotter than MGOG and will burn your seeds much more easier. I have used and compared both, I liked starting seeds in the MG and then transplanting them into final FFOF containers. But now I just hempy and solve all the problems
