Question baking soda

ive been using this for my water ph. ive noticed no side effects but never heard of it before. is there a reason why i shouldnt, its cheap, easy, and basically no matter the amout the ph goes to 7. just wondering why more dont use this method. i mean, you dont have to even check your ph. ive expeirimented and 1/4 teaspoon per gallon and 1 teaspoon per gallon both give a ph of 7.

Baking soda contains a lot of sodium, which will promote salt build up in the root zone and possibly/probably cause nutrient lock-out...not to mention is toxic to plants...

I used it for a short time, but when I noticed problems I coughed up the cheddar for some PH up.
