![]() | I purchased all of my lighting, panda film, carbon filter, fan etc from HTG last week. I decided since I had the day off I would go to a local warehouse that sells really great planting products for really cheap because of overstock. I got plenty of potting pods, a hydrofarm enviro hood, drain plates, pots etc. It was only $1.50 per pound on all of it! I also purchased a bale of Sunshine #4 mix and a bag of Perlite as I read that was the right one somewhere, and also according to Jorge Cervantes on his High Times dvd's. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether this #4 is the one to use, because now a buddy is telling me he always uses Sunshine #1 and I'm not sure of the difference. Should I exchange this #4 for #1 instead? What are the differences? I tried a search on this forum, but it brought back many results not specifically to this question. Sorry if I annoyed anyone. Thanks to all! Last edited by frankfooter32; 06-16-2008 at 11:29 PM..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sunshine #4 is the way to go. I have used this for about two years and love it. PH neutral and easy to work with. Jorge must have got that secret from some old hippies, lol. He is right on track, though. Just make sure to use a mask when working with it. -=AE=-

![]() | Mask? Does it stink or something? LOL! I just put it in my garage with all my supplies and haven't had a chance to mix it yet with the perlite. What would you guys recommend for the mixture formula? I was going to mix 30% perlite with the #4. Also I havent purchased nutes yet. Can someone recommend quality vegetative and flowering nutes that work well with the #4 and mixing in perlite? Thanks! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Which one is #4, and which is #1? The manufactuer's website does not list the products with numbers. I have used truckloads of the all-purpose planting mix (green bag), and think it is an excellent product for my applications. It has a lot of sphagnum peat and is therefore very acidic, that's one of the qualities that I want for my uses. How's your water? what kind of ferts are you planning to use? ![]() penguin

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think most sunshine mixes are peat based... but that's just my gut . My memory is so lousy I don't trust it. One of the qualities of peat that I don't like is that it holds onto moisture. I tend to overwater so I like a fast draining mix and use about 40% perlite in my mix. ![]() Peace- OD

Sunshine # 4 is mostly made of sphagnum peat moss. So it holds air and drains quickly. Great for leeching salts from your medium. One thing I like about Sunshine # 4 mix is that it is consistent. That way I never have to look at the soil being an issue. -=AE=-
