Since you have a couple days, try mixing up some 5.9 and 6.5 and letting them sit a day. After a day, shake the mixture up again and test the pH. You want it to be between 5.7 and 6.4.

Spring water, Rain water, Tap water. I have no idea they all tested differently, I have PH down that I use for the tap water to get it in the 6's, I'm going out of town for a few days and leaving the watering up to someone I know so fertilizing (or i should say changing the fertilizer) while I'm away scares the crap out of me so I think I'm gonna hold off until I get back.

![]() ![]() | I'd use the spring water or the rain water, whichever you have the easiest, cheapest, most access to. (Basically, whichever of the two you're most likely to prefer using for the long term.) Test your tap water too to see just how good it is - if you're lucky that can actually be a much easier source. My water is pretty low on the hardness scale, our city water is among the best around. Mix up some nutrient solution to the desired concentration, pH it to the level you want and let it sit out for a day or so, preferably with aeration. Also run the same test with nothing but the water (not pH'd). Check your pH to see how it changes, if it changes. If, for example, your water/nutrient solution predictably goes up by a certain amount in a certain amount of time just sitting out with bubbles going through it, you know that you can afford to adjust it a bit on the low end of the scale and let it drift upward. As your plants drink water and absorb nutes they'll change the EC and pH of the solution, so you want to know how the pH would be changing without the plants. That way you know how much of the change is coming from the plants and how much is just normal for the solution.
