This thread http://www.gardenscure.com/420/growi...akistan-2.html sparked a curiosity in me. I've seen a couple of different house hold items such as vinegar for use as a pH down (I think?) and epsom salt as... I cant remember what its used for, but you get the point. Sound off on anything you could find around the house / in a regular store to use as a nutrient or additive! (if you know some basic directions for dosage add that as well) ![]()

Vinegar and lemon juice among other things can be used for lowering pH, but it’s not as effective and lasting as pH Down itself. Epsom salts. for magnesium to facilitate peak nutrient uptake. add ¼ tsp. Per gallon of water.

![]() | I haven't seen this one before. Almond shells as a substitute for rockwool and peat moss. I don't know about U.S. and Canada, but almonds are pretty common here in Pakistan and I haven't seen rockwool so it could be useful to some. ScienceDirect - Scientia Horticulturae : Almond shell waste: possible local rockwool substitute in soilless crop culture Edit - @ analog - What exactly do you use molasses for?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | molasses contains a little bit of nutes but is mainly used to feed the good bacteria in your soil. if you ever made guano tea, by bubbling guano in some water, you can add molasses to sort of feed the bacteria. in the end its real good for the root sysytem.

and almonds are actually fairly expensive here, but it'd be interesting to grow in nonetheless.
