As long as the DE stays dry it is an effective insect barrier. What kinds of bugs are you trying to control?

DE will kill any insect that comes in contact with enough of it. It won't hurt your plants' leaves and it won't hurt you if you ingest it. A dust mask is sufficient protection from the DE. I have used DE in my growroom to try to control whiteflies. I don't know what the DE decomposes.

Info on DE.
