does cloning gel go bad? i opened mine the other day and it looked dark and smelled horrible. i cant remember it having an odor, and as i recall it was a clearish pale yellow color. botanicare brand i believe. | ||

| I'd say if it "looked dark and smelled horrible" it was bad.

| yes indeed cloning gel can go bad... Its mostly just sugars and stuff bacteria loves to propagate in. Gels should always be stored in the fridge and never dip cuttings directly into the container or you can infect your jar. Always scoop some out with a clean spoon and dip into that.

| yeah it can go bad. i kept my olivia's gel in the fridge. always replaced it after a year, no matter what was left in it. it always turns dark, but i think thats from exposure to air every time i opened it. i dont use cloning gel anymore, i have not since i bought the ezcloner about 2 years ago. so i have saved some money not having to buy cloning gel or root cubes.

| yeah i think the cloning gel is kind of bullshit. ive cloned all kinds of crap before i even knew it existed. i grew up with the mindset of take a cutting stick it in dirt, itll grow. and by god, it usually does! | ||

| Never thought about keeping my gels in the fridge..  .... Although Ive recently moved from gels to powder for those reasons.. I find the powders to work as well, lasts longer and doesn't seem to be affected by rot .... But Ive had a jar once that I dipped a stem into.. the next time I opened the container it was all gone except for a lil dark blob on the bottom.. it was hideous.. thats how I learned never to dip..
