Ph Up & PH down products
permalink

Greetings my fellow gardeners.

I have seen in a couple of youtube videos and I spotted a product named Phup and Phdown I have been surfing the net trying to find any website that sells that product for garden use but I end up in pool equipment websites and I highly doubt that pool products to treat ph could be used for gardening purposes.

A couple of months ago I spotted a thread with the address to a website that offered a lot of equipment including CFL packages for Veg and for Flow cycles but I lost the site address.

Thank you for any help my green thumb brothers & sisters!

Yep, and FWIW I use spa PH down. It is WAY WAY more powerful, so you have to be extra careful. I disolve 1/4 tsp in some water by shaking it vigorously in a bottle then add it to my res. In 400 ppm water it'll bring it from 6.5 to 5.3ish and in 1000 ppm water it brings it down from 6.5 to about 6.0. I haven't seen any reprecussions thus far and my girls have had it since January.

I would recommend getting the liquid stuff though. Little more expensive, but much easier to hone in the ph level you want IMO.

Hello steward

A simple way to correct your water ph, is vinegar to lower ph , and baking soda to raise ph. Both are very concitrated so always practice before you use it And always only correct with one at a time. Hope this helps. Happy Growing!

Claymoore,
Your question is difficult to answer because it's going to depend on the composition and mineral content of your water. If you are using R/O water it won't take much. If you water is city water and has a lot of calcium in it the calcium will act as a buffer and it will take more.

Usually to lower the pH from a 8.2 it takes 12 drops of nitric acid to get it to a 6.2, at least around here with the calcium hardness at around 45 - 60ppm. Obviously when i use RO there is about 0ppm of hardness so it does take less. to raise it as stated using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) willll work.. but you'd want to use sodium carbonate (soda ash) which is designed to adjust only pH as baking soda is more for adjusting the total alkalinity of water.. if you have a local garden store or hydroponic store you can find pH up and down which to lower it as stated you can use nitric acid which is what I use during veg and phosphoric acid during flower to lower pH of water.

Thank you all for posting your thoughts and ideas.

I tried the vinegar on water thing and it worked I took a a sample of tap water and is well along 6.0 i tried to dilute a bottle cap on a 32oz sprayer and it droped to 4.0 so thats too low i belive. Im going to try diluting a bit less than that.

Didn't knew baking soda raised the ph so im going to try some of that and see how it works.

Whats the best Ph for the water? I think I read somewhere about being 4.5 to 5.5 am I wrong?
