Just got my Hanna pH meter and had a couple questions. 1) The directions say to condition the electrode using H170300 for 2 hours. From other postings I did not see people doing this. How necessary is this? FYI...I have the 4.0/7.0 buffer solutions to calibrate the unit. 2) The directions say to keep the sensor moist at all times. It says "For this purpose, always keep wet the tissue inside the protective cap." I may be a moron but that makes no sense to me? I have read a few users putting "a few drops" of the 7.0 buffer solution in the cap to keep it moist. Looks to me you would need more that a few drops to submerge the cloth in the sensor with the cap. Could someone elaborate on what they do so I do this correctly. 3) How often do you calibrate the unit? Is this based on amount of use or overall time (i.e. once a month). 4) How often do you cut the sensor cloth. The directions say you can do this up to 20 times before you need to replace the electrode. Thanks DD

I have a Hanna 9813-0 combo ph/tds meter. I keep just enough storage solution - about 1/8" - in my protective cap to keep the electrode wet between uses. I tend to take a quick calibration check often as it only takes a second. I get peace of mind and I'm more confident of the ph reading if the unit tests out to 7.0 in the ref solution and I immediately use the meter. It's usually right on but can drift +/- .1 (one tenth) between uses which is totally acceptable. Peace!![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | dont store it in buffer solution or RO water. rinse the pen in tap water, and poor some in the cap {the little round part inside is for the ph bulb} make sure that little round tub has some water in it {tap or spring water, if your tap is hard} to condition the pen for its first use, or any time it gets flakey as shit sit it in a glass of tap water for a while. soak it before you calibrate it for the first time. when you calibrate, have two shot glasses handy. and NEVER poor the solution back into the bottles. What model meter do you have exactly? i have never heard of cutting sensor cloth???? The PH sensor is a liquid filled glass bulb. i too have the hanna black combo ec/ph meter

SALE! NEW HANNA HI98107 98107 PH METER TESTER CHECKER - eBay (item 310140628621 end time Aug-04-09 15:31:49 PDT) It mentioned cutting the cloth in the Asian directions that came with the unit. As with most Asian directions the writing no so good. Dave

Your link does have "Pull out 2 mm (1/8'') of the cloth junction to renew the electrode reference (it is recommended to cut the cloth leaving always at least 2 mm - 1/8'' over the reference compartment) and recalibrate the meter. The cloth junction can be pulled out approximately 20 times. After that, the electrode should be replaced" I take it you have never seen a unit with a "pull cloth"? DD

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't care for the cloth style meters. They seem to be inacurate over time. A friend had one, and he would just use a tweezers and pull it out a bit. Take some very small clippers, and cut the old part off. They only have a certain length, and I don't believe it's long at all. Just a few inches. So don't go overboard with it.
