so a lot of questions get asked on wich soils are good to use. plenty of other questions also about soil. i was just going to post a question, asking how many gallons comes in a large ocean forest bag...and thought, lets make the soil thread.lol so basically, the soil thread will be a thread of good, cannabis friendly soils, and things about that soil. so any soils you have used with sucsess, post some stuff up about it. like gallons per bag, normal price, npk values, anything you can think of. and when people ask...wich soil should i plant my seed in, this thread will be here. for example... pro bix bales. they have a few types. main difference is amount of perlite or wetting agents. they can be used from seed-flowering as they contain no nutrients to harm young seeds. reusable as well. a bale cost around 30 dollars, and has around 60 gallons of soil. give or take a few. can use right out of the bag, or create your own unique mix. p.s. i still wanna know how many gallons is in ocean forrest. lol

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Just to add to your pro-mix details.....I use the pro-mix BX which costs around $35 a bale. It has 107 litres if I recall, but it is compressed, so it will give you more than that. I find the peat in the BX makes the PH drop like hell after a few months in the same bucket, but the plants still get all they need at a ph level of 6.2-6.5 for some reason. Dolomite lime (1tablespoon per gallon of soil) has helped stablize my PH later on though. Anyway, I use it, and think its well worth the $. Thats my on pro-mix BX. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I tend to buy on the cheap. I know, I know its a big box brand but I have nothing but good things (mostly) to say about Shultz Garden-Safe organic potting soil. Its nice and rich and has a good amount of peat and a small amount of perlite mixed in. It has nice rich humus, and holds moisture well. For this reason I find that its extremely beneficial to put together 3 parts soil to 1-2 parts perlite. depending on the container size, bigger gets more. Has a tendency to compact inside rootmass, another area where supplimental perlite is helpful as well. It is OMRI certified, and as best I can tell, pest free. I had a spider mite outbreak my first grow, also using this soil, but I traced back to a new houseplant I didn't spray down with neem before I brought it inside. It has a initial fert content of .09-.09-.09. I find germinating from seeds to be quite easy to accomplish. Small seedlings seem to enjoy the light nute content. Constant ph is easy to maintain as well. Shoot, for 8 bucks a bag on sale, I'll take it

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Good idea for a thread! Ocean Forrest potting mix, FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company Grows plants great, I think it has mites some times but that's just me. It now comes 2 different ways, from the west coast and the east coast. The west coast is the stuff we are all used to and the east is a new mix that is lighter and contains cedar. Have not tried the new personally but know people that like it just as good as the old mix. I am not a huge fan of FF products personally, but the soils work good.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am a bit old school on soil in that I don't spend much money on it. I don't buy any designer soils, I just mix my own. I buy a bag of nute free topsoil from Lowes at 2 bucks for 40lbs and a huge bag of unnuted perlite from a garden coop for 15 bucks per 20lb bag and mix them 50/50. I have been using this mix for years and it has always produced great results with stable PH. ![]() Swap

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | that red wiggler stuff sounds awesome. wish i could find something like it down here in the states. i can find garden humus which is cow poop and misc humus, and pure worm castings which are outrageously expensive. ive been using LC's soilles mix #1 {peat perlite and humus basically} its kind of a bitch to water, like the water just wants to sit on top and not run through. anyone got a suggestion for this? i was thinking of mixing in a bag of topsoil with everything else next time...

![]() | I know Miracle Gro gets shit on a lot. But I can't afford to pay $50 for a bag of Fox Farm, 1/2 that price is S&H... So all I could get today when I went out was MG products. I got the MG Organic Choice Potter's Soil & MG Perlite... Is it just the nutes people have a beef with, or MG in general, should I not be using this stuff?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | its the nutes in the soil they have a problem with. the soil isnt the worst shit ever..but generally full of junk, bugs and whatever else. you would be better off getting the big 2 dollar bag of top soil, and cutting it with perlite, peat and whatever else you want..like worm castings, or **** meals etc. if you are running your own nute schedule you dont really need to add any types of ferts to the soil. just make it light and airy.
