how to use hygrozyme????
permalink

i grow under a 150hps in a cabinet. i have been growing dreamgoddess for several yeas taking a clone of a clone. when cloning back in the last month of 08 i could not get anything rooted. at this same time i lost 3 out of 4 flowering attempts due to a root problem. i had 4 plants survive grown together in a 4 gallon cat litter container with 4 airstones in a dwc. these plants made it a provided me a great harvest in march 09. i revegged the plants and lost one in the process. i just started flowering the three and looking at the roots, the new growth are at the bottom and their are a lot of dead roots in between. i ordered hygrozyme to help break down old root mass. my h2o temps can creep to 80 but i keep frozen water bottles in the container to control temps.

i am reading that hygrozyme can promote the slime attack...the one that i am trying to prevent by using hygrozyme. these are very special plants that i do nnot want to loose. i am doubting even now adding this.
any recommendations. like as a 24 hr flush.

lastly, i have been adding EA and EN and i think i have had remarkable resuls with fighting off the slime.

any recommendations?

There is a thread on the other site you posted this question on by Dongle69 which effectively shows that enzymes do not, in fact, break down dead root material. They may well be effective in helping to keep roots white and healthy but do not work as advertised breaking down dead material.

I don't know what EA and EN stand for but if they are working do you still feel you have a problem?

Guess is the water temp is the problem. The ice may keep it cool most of the time but I am guessing it occasionally slips up before you catch it. It does not take long for problems to develop in DWC when O2 levels drop and your roots are in water. People in E&F generally say that roots start dying within 20 minutes of being in standing water and their water tends to be at room temp which is probably around 80.

There are probably some products out there that can help you a little but bottom line in any problem solving technique is finding the root cause and fixing that. You have had success before without additional products so you know it can be done...something has changed in your system or process. Figure out what that is, correct it and your problem would go away. I would give water temp some serious consideration.

thanks YS..i appreciate you providing some info. there is so much conflicting info that i do not want to make a huge mistake...i battled the slime about 18 months ago and these revegged plants were the only thing that survived.
what i have read that is consistent is the enzyme do not work to cure your problem.
Earth Ambrosia, Earth Nectar seems to be more of a soil application but when i had my problem 18 months ago it seemed to help and I have been using it to be proactive. I do not seem to have a problem just alot of dead roots that could be food to slime....but to tell you the truth in changing the h2o i do not see alot of root pieces floating around. from my initial reading i thought hygrozyme would be a simple additive i ordered it and now i am thinking i just wasted 35 bucks
thanks for taking time out Sam to help with the old roots.
