How long does liquid plant food last?
permalink

Hi all,

I have over half a bottle of Fox Farm Big Bloom from my last grow 2 years ago. I just want to make sure that its still fine to use. I really have no clue if fertilizer "expires" so any knowledge on the subject would be great. I've already used it for the first flowering feeding and I just want to make sure its still potent. Thanks!

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think a concentrate would go bad, it just seperates... Thats the one that looks like mudwater, I'm guessing you would just shake well like usual and your off to the races... again thats only my , I wouldn't know for sure.. Hopefully it's good though that stuff isn't cheap and it's the most used if your using the 7 part line. Good luck

Sounds real old for liquid organics. If it seems the same go for it. If it seems like the chocolate milk went to a chocolate milkshake I'd throw it away.

Yeah its still normal liquid consistency. With a good shake, its no different than when I first bought it back in 2007. The one thing I did notice though is that it lacks any smell. I recall it having a decently strong odor... can anyone comment on that?

Mine doesnt smell strong. Its fairly new. Smells a bit, not much though. I'd say no weird chunks in it or wierd smells go for it.

Mhmm I never use liquid nutes anymore. I prefer dry nutes. The ones I used are quite expensive but I buy it when I tag along with my father to an Annul Asian flower/Book convention and they sell it cheaper than usual prices online and at stores.

This is a link to the dry nutes I give to all my plants that I think are worthy of my money:

http://http://www.grobetter.com/inde...22&language=en

Link to all 3 of their products:

I usually buy a 2 40lb bags.

wtf. when in doubt throw it out. Make a sandwich at home instead of getting the $7 enchilada dinner, and buy new stuff.

Two years old is too old IMO. I asked a guy down the road who's family owns a large greenhouse/nursery. One year is about how long you should keep liquid nutes. The guy at the hydro store said the same thing.
The salts in the fertilizer can crystallize over time. Heating them gently in a pan of water can dissolve the salts back into solution though but why bother? Organic liquid ferts can also become moldy over time.
