Im curious to know when the best time to switch from my veg nutes to my bloom. At what stage does the plants stop useing nitrogen and need more P-K? My plants have just started to show their sex, and the fertalizer I am currently useing is 5-2-2.

Hey dude,

I normally switch nutes when I flip the lighting to 12/12 from 24/0. Recently I have started doing a 50/50 mix of veg/bloom nutes for the two weeks on either side of the switch. I.E. I start 50/50 mix one week before I go 12/12 and continue for one week after I start 12/12.

Can't say much about the nutes you are using, since I don't generally pay too much attention to the ratio. I just use some good quality nutes and I figure the manufacturer has sorted all that stuff out.

Peace.

When considering what time to transition to bloom nutes I think most people factor a few things in, the area that is available and how soon to harvest seems to be 2 of the top considerataions.

Some people barely veg at all and some go for months.

I normally swith the first week or two of flower. If I know the strain will go longer, I may even go three weeks into flower.

I wouldnt cut off the N untill the last 3-4 weeks. If youre growing organic, youre going to want to use more N than usual. Microbes in soil tend to use up large amounts of N, added on top of what the plants already use. So not enough N in organics and your plant will suffer before the microbes will.

AT my local garden store, (closest to my house) they didnt have much variety. What should I go for, the 0-45-0, or the 10-40-30. Or should I find something without Nitrogen??

Those NKP numbers look like outdoor nutrients... TheFoxFarm line I use has much lower %s. But the Heavy Harvest I use for outdoor is timerelease and it's %s are closer to what your looking at...If your already in flower cycle I would go for something like the 10-40-30 if thats all have to choose from.. I think the 0-45-0 is for early blooming.. it makes your flower start to show a little sooner.. I could be wrong,
Good luck

I'd go for another store or order something.

What brands? I'd choose the 10-40-30 if it's your only option. The other contains no N or K at all.

I agree better for outdoors because soil outside has more area, so more nutes can be obsorbed.

I think lower numbers are better to start with as well because you can always add more nutes, but to much brings sad plants.

I have nutes with high & also low #'s & when I am trying a new strain I go with low #'s unless I am sure it is a BIG feeder.
