Will half strength nutes give same yield
permalink

Hi,
A friend is mine is adamant that I am using too much nutes. I use GH flora series at full strength. Plants didn't get burned but he says I could get same yield with half strength nutes.
I guess my opinion is that I should use the maximum amount the plants can tolerate to maximize yield/potentency.
Has anyone grown identical seeds at different nute strengths and compared results?
Thanks,
Spud

As long as you don't overnute, I think the most they'll take would give the most yield. I find most manufacturers recommendations to be too strong, but if your plants look healthy then you are probably doing right.

County, do you use molasses? I'm trying a little less nutes and some molasses currently to see how that affects weight.

FWIW, when I upped my nutes on my last grow I did get better buds and more weight.

Much depends upon the strain, but in general as long as my plants seem to be able to handle it I give them full nutes.

However, I also alternate pure water for nuted water with every other watering, in particular if I have to water more than once a week.

My feeling is that your plants will let you know if they are getting too much in the way of nutes, but the more you can give them the bigger they will grow (all other things being equal).

Peace.

The plant cannot reach it's potential without getting the most nutrients it can handle. Not

saying the plant should be too dark green, but if you have flawless leaves then you are

right on. The PPP is a touchy girl and it was the first time for me growing it. I had to

keep increasing the ppm until I saw signs of the tips burning. I do this to find the limit

and then run slightly lower. PPP is about a half feeder maxing out at 800 ppm for me. I

ran 1050 and she did show signs of burn so I dropped her down. A buddy of mine

undernuted and I finally convinced him to use the FF schedule. He trippled his yield.

So I believe the plant needs to have all the food it wants to perform to it's full potential,

but without crossing the line. If that made any sense.

the nutes I use call for 1 oz per gallon of water...I use 1/3-1/2 a oz per gallon

In veg growth I use my nutes once a week.... in flower I use my nutes everytime I water with no burn or lockout

I tell all my friends ....if they want to be able to use fert everytime they water without worry of lockout or burn... use 1/2 of what the directions call to use

I'm a soil-less grower (Sunshine pro #4).....This is my advise for soil-less grows

Example.....

I have to water 3 times a week....I been using 1/2 oz of fert in a gallon of water everytime I've been watering my NYCD.... which has been in flower for almost 11 weeks no lockout ...............look at the size of my potter

Thats 33 waterings in flower with fertilzer.... no flushing out and still no lockout

Thanks for the reinforcement.
UpNorth - I don't use molasses but I do use flora nectar.

I kinda figured that with all the botany and horticultural schit I read, maximum nutes= maximum yield/potency.
I just that that this dude seemed so adamant about me wasting money on nutes by using so much.
I like the idea of saving a few bucks but not at the cost of smaller buds.

I grew PPP last grow and it tolerated nutes a bit less than snow white for sure.
