Question, can bat guano based teas be used as a complete nutrient schedule?
permalink

am using fox farm ocean forest as a base potting mix with hydroton added for aeration on the bottom of the pots. I would like to use compost teas, specifically guano based, as a complete feeding schedule. Using Sunleaves International House of Guano as a starting point.

Sunleaves :: Sunleaves International House of Guano

So...brewing tea...
-5 gal. bucket, tap water that's been aerated for at least 2-3 hrs. (really there's just a constantly bubbling bucket of water going at all times)
-compost (cotton burr) also have my own compost pile going but it's not quite ready yet..
-blackstrap molasses
-apple cider vinegar
worm castings
-guano according to growth stage i.e mexican, peruvian, etc...

thinking about using GH's florablend and subculture - b to add to the mix
also looking for a sea kelp to add to the mix? Any recommendations on that?

am thinking about this one:

pure growth organics: Organic Fertilizer Tea Bags- Kelp-Meal-in-a-Bucket (10 lbs)

so...not monitoring PH thinking that if the soil is properly taken care of, microbiology and whatnot, that the rest of it will kinda take care of itself.

Strictly organic btw if that wasn't clear enough, anyways, have looked at multiple threads on the subject but i guess I just wanted to give a clear picture of what I am doing specifically and what you all might think of it. Questions? Recommendations? Any advice would be more than welcome.
Thanks

Id just get the peruvian and jamaican. Plus, they are both omri listed. Other 2 arent needed imo. A dry kelp I like is Algamin kelp meal. Its about 14 dollars for 5 pounds.

Dont know what you would want the vinegar for. Also, Id aerate the water a full day. Make sure to get out as many chems as possible, because all they do is prevent and kill microbial life.

Not sure if the florablend is organic. I dont believe it is though. They just came out with a new nutrient line though. Its called general organics. Not omri listed but it smells and looks organic. Creates microbe life when aerated, wich tells me very few chems are in it. If any.

Id feed with a weak tea every other watering, or a stronger one every 3rd. A good microbe population means the less food your plants need.

Good luck. Organics easy. I feel like the microbes do the work for me....Well they do.

yeah, i have a constantly bubbling source of water ready to be used at all times, it's usually been aerated to de-chlorinate it for a day or so before being used. Apple cider vinegar is a great source of trace minerals, good for acid loving plants, usually 1-2 tbsp. in a 5 gallon bucket, also acts as a ph down but is not very stable. Not really recommended for that. I think you're right about the florablend, it's labeled as a vegan compost tea, .5-1-1, but I don't think it qualifies as organic. Will look into the algamin, thanks for the response. Also why not the other guanos in the list? unnecessary? They give you a complete feeding schedule with the kit, from seedling to flower. Mexican, peruvian, jamaican, then indonesian. Think you could simplify it with just the two? Always down for keeping things simple. And what do you think about GH's subcultures? If you're brewing your own teas do you need the soil inoculants? Lotsa questions for ya'll, thanks again.

Ahh, the compost tea should be alright. Maybe I was thinking chemical because of the flora 3 part series...

Imo Cannabis isnt an acid loving plant. So Id stay away from the vinegar. Kelp has many trace elements. Just my opinion.

I've heard about using alfalfa meal in the tea because there is a nutrient or an enzyme or something that helps plants out immensely. I'll find the link and get it up here.

You're absolutely right. It called triaconatol, and is a growth hormone which does some wonderful things for your plants when they are vegging (full of other vitamins and minerals as well). Personally I wouldn't use it during flowering because it has been shown, at least in theory, that it could slightly stall the flowering process. I don't know how true it is in real-world applications, but the theory alone is enough to not use it once I switch to 12-12. Plus, I give my girls all sorts of goodies from kelp (I too use the Kelp-meal-in-a-bucket from pure growth organics), as well as their other stuff.

To answer your original question, yes, the teas you propose would suffice without anything else (guano according to stage, kelp, castings with some added molasses) for your entire grow.

eleaf-

thanks alot man, interesting about the growth hormone in alfalfa, i also actually use alfalfa meal for the vegging stage simply because it's high in nitrogen, it's great to get more in depth information and get to know some more of the chemistry/science behind some of these things rather than just reading n-p-k ratios and whatnot.

This is my first post and I think I could have filed it under a more specific category but regardless, thank you all for your help
much Love

yeah, recipes certainly vary widely on compost teas, i think there are additional benefits to the kelp that would outweigh the trace minerals gained from apple cider vinegar, but some people swear by it.

there is a mention of using apple cider vinegar on this page from komet, its the 28th post in the thread.

Quote:
9. Some people like to add 1-2 tblsp of apple cider vinegar to add about 30 extra trace minerals and to add the little acidicity that is present in commercial fish emulsions. Many fish emulsions contain up to 5% sulfuric acid to help it preserve on the shelf and add needed sulfur to the soil. You can add extra magnesium and sulfur by adding 1-2 tblsp of Epsom salt to the tea.
