Question is gh fertilizer really that acidic
permalink

hey guys new to the forum but have been reading for quite awhile on this site and it seems to be the best overall IMO. on to the situation, the water from the faucet is 7.5 and when i added 6ml of micro and 20ml of bloom for a total ppm of 1100. this brought the ph all the way to 4.8 all of my equipment is new and calibrated. so i will try adjusting to 6.5. are gh fertilizers really this acidic or is something wrong

I don't believe GH is that acidic.

My pH starts out at 6.5 and I have to add pH down in addition to the GH nutes to bring it down to 5.7 for hydro.

I know your equipment is new, but have you calibrated it?

no i have not calibrated it myself, it came with a certification card showing a 4.01 and 7.01 calibration and also checked using a 10.01 solution. but i will recalibrate and see what happens. i tested some distilled water and it measured 7.0 which is what it should so you can see how i'm confused

Distilled water showing up as 7.0 doesn't really mean much.

You need to get the 7.0 storage solution (i always hear you don't need the 4.0 from the hydro shops). Stick the pH meter in the solution, let it sit for a minute and then calibrate the meter to 7.0.

Just add your nutes and then check you pH, adjust accordingly, but make sure your calibration is set because that sounds pretty acidic unless you are adding too much?
