Welcome to the Garden kkinggong!

99% of growers think Miracle Grow is shit - it is preferted soil & MJ doesn't necessarily like those nutes in those ratios.

However, there is that 1% who can grow in it & says it does fine.

Shipping charges on soil are often more than the FFO soil itself - which is pretty pricey in itself. That's why most people drive (even an hour or more) to buy it.

Given the choice of MG or FFO + shipping, I'd probably go with the FFOF.

Here's one thread on MG.

Here's another.

So it can be done.

i hold the same opinion to when it comes to Miracle Grow, but what i was thinking since the npk is so low on every thing (i think its like 0.10-0.5-0-0.5) that i could add my nut like bone meal and castings and all that other shit i cant think of right now, any one got any opinion on that would that work would that turn a shit soil in to an ok soil. or should i just go with a plain poting soil and mix the nut in with it

If you are going to go through all that additive stuff, why not just try a coco grow or perlite and add to that instead of shitty soil?

Id buy the miracle grow perlite and mix it 50 percent with my back yard soil before buying miracle grow organic again. That stuff is just plain pathetic. I wouldnt take it if they paid me for it. Unless they paid millions of course.

My dirty lil secret is that I used MG soil up untill my last grow...and I have been growing for YEARS. Now I prefer 100% coarse perlite, and I use 1/2 strength MG ferts lol. My biggest problem with other nutes is the ridiculous prices I see them getting in grow shops. MG is cheap and despite all the bad press it gets on these forums, it works quite well. Even while using the mg soil I still use cheapy nutes like ESU Greenleaves Bloom Juice for flowering. As long as you keep an eye on your PH and the nutes are soluble..the plants will use em.

that .10-.5-.5 is % by weight
I don't know at what moisture level they calculate that

but if it's a 40lb sack o' dirt that's:
.04 lbs-.2 lbs- .2 lbs
those are the weights of the actual NPK
.2 lbs is a little over 3oz

keep that in mind when using or buying nutes

just as a reference of sorts
a 32oz bottle of GH FloraGro is 2-1-6
the contents weigh 2.32 lbs
2% is N... 1% is P... 6% is K
so actual contents in a $10 bottle is:
.0464 lbs of N
.0232 lbs of P
.2784 lbs of K

1. Call General Hydroponics, and see if they are still sending samples of their Organic line. You get a quart of each, about 8 quarts total, for about $15-20 shipping. No lie, if they are still running the promo.

2. Get the cheapest potting/un-nuted soil you can, OR FFHF. Get some perlite too if you want.

3. Add the perlite to the cheap soil. Got leftover straw from halloween strawbales? you can add that too, chopped up, just beware of possible bugs.

4. Use the organic nutes. Lots of people have used them and swear by them in soil, here and other boards.

5. Forget Miracle Grow- I never liked those pre-mixed nutes, all it is is MG granules and dirt- over water and you can get nute burn.

But it's up to you. MG users are a die-hard minority here. I'll probably get flamed (again) for saying not to use MG soil.

Or, just forget it and do dutch pot/ hempy. Works faster than soil!

I use promix but ran out of it while i was potting 20 clones. I became paranoid about the hydroshop i was going to and so decided to grab 3 bags of miracle grow for my 6 12" pots remaining. They're all in there together now and look to be doing just fine. I'll post an update
