How do you check your soil ph???

... And do you ph your solution before feeding your plants? The 6.5 is what I want to shoot for. Does adding a 6.5 solution eventually bring your soil to that level? FF ocean forest here...

Email from fox farm one day said mixing bone dry soil with distilled water is best.

I cant remember exact amounts of each. Sorry.

Id do a few tablespoons, then just slighty more water than soil. Let sit half an hour, test that water with a meter.

Thats what fox farm said. Agin, not sure on amounts.

I grow organic, and dont check/adjust mine. My water is 5.5, and 5.0 most of the time with my nutrient teas. They do not get adjusted.

into my new bag of FoxFarms Ocean Forest...6.2

I don't worry about ph unless I have a significant problem
soil has so much buffering....I've never been able to alter it too much

I check the 1st batch of nutes for ph
if I continue to feed the same mixture...I don't check batch 2 if batch 1 was within range
most of my nutes tend to drop the ph

I only worry about pH in my hydro nightmares

Thanks for the info... Now I know what the soil ph is. And if I continue adding 6.5 to it only good things should happen...

JG

Yea hydro can be a pain. Believe me I know and will know again shortly...

How hard is the water you're using?

hard tap like mine will add buffering to the soil
raising the ph

I use R/o in potted plants and I have less problems

RO all the way here too. I just the other day did a 50/50 test on ro and tap. Just because years ago someone told me doing that would give the plants a taste of chrorine (which is good for the plants on a low level).... And the minerals in tap water will add calcium, zink, and other micro`s...

Agreed. Many "legal" horticulturists will tell you soil probes are usually wrong. Distilled water and soil are the best imo.
