I Noticed that my plants lower leaves were turning yellow, and that they had some brown spots on them, also accompanied by a purple stem. I read some posts, and decided that it must be a MG deficiency. I do not have a PH meter, But i figured I might as well try the salt. I was wondering if someone could tell me how much salt I should add to how much water. The plant is 3 weeks old, and living happily under compact flourescents. I have it in un-ferted ProMix soil. Is it time to start ferting yet? Thanks | ||

| Purple stems are normal with some genetics, and can also be a sign of phosphorus deficiency but to my knowledge aren't related to magnesium deficiency. Epsom salt should be applied at a rate of 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water. It probably is about time to begin general ferts as well. A 1/4 strength dose of Peters 20-20-20 would go well with the epsom salt. ![]() | ||
