We made the mistake of planting Isis in Hyponex, which it thoroughly hated, and only 2 of 3 that germinated survived the ordeal. ![]() We transplanted them into FoxFarm's red bag Original mix, and our wretched seedlings came back to life. They were transplanted a few more times, ending up in the FF blue bag Ocean Forest mix.As newb's we were astonished at the outcome of our nearly-aborted first grow - phat, 12" colas, and over 5 ounces of trippy buds from 2 plants. ![]() Needless to say, we're a big fan of FoxFarm's products now. It definately costs more, especially the potting mixes, versus mainstream stuff, but it is made for growing pot, and grow pot it does. ![]() Which leads me to my actual question. ![]() FoxFarm is motivated to motivate you to buy their fertilizer in addition to their potting mixes, but despite that they recommend using no fertilizers for 2 weeks after planting in the mix. ![]() Most peeps prefer to NOT use a pre-fertilized mix for seedlings. So, is FF too rich to plant the germinated seed in?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | We just planted our less-than-a-week-old seedlings in FFOF over the weekend and combined with the new 400W MH we have over them, they are doing extraordinary. I do believe FF is pre-ferted, but it's not burning our little girls, so I would say it's safe. That's completely your decision tho! Good luck!! And great job on your last grow, btw! I found it very inspiring! ![]()

Your experience and opinion support our hypothesis that, strictly speaking, FF's potting mixes are pre-ferted, but the ferts are organic and selected specifically for the cultivation of cannabis, and therefore unlikely to overwhelm a pot plant of any age or state of distress.

I use the ocean forest planting mix. I used that to sprout my seedlings, none burnt. I then used grow big and big bloom nutrients for the remainder of the grow. (it's still in progress). No burning, and nothing but incredible results. Awsome products.

Thanks for the input. Based on our experience your confidence about using FF mixes for seedlings sounds like good advice. Several GJ readers said they saw what FF did for our newbie weed -- strong vegetation, heavy buds -- and consequently switched or vowed to use it next time. I basically have 10x more readers than writers in my GJ, so who knows how many peeps ended up plunking down good money for some good mixes and ferts? When I first started the hobby in March our grow/hydro store had a few bags of red and a few of blue. Now they have it stacked high. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, I too have noticed (especiall on this board), that more and more people are going with fox farm. It has just the right amount of nutes to get a plant going. My only grip is that their fertilizer is not 100% organtic like Earth Juice, but its like 99.3% organtic. Also the fox farm flowering soil is great also, just have to add more N during the first couple of feedings.

Yeah, when you put a plant of any age into a fresh heap of FF you need to wait 2 weeks before nutes. I agree, three weeks is more ideal for seedlings. After all, it is packed with goodies from the get-go.Expressed another way: the hydro store where I shop is highly motivated to sell me as many nutes as they can get me to carry out the door, yet they admonish one to wait 2 weeks before fertilizing when planting/transplanting into FF. ![]()
