Hi there just wondering because the water I have / use comes directly from a creek that runs by my house.. When I put the water in a container lots of sediments settle into the bottom.. Most recently more because of all the rain we have been getting.. making the water very dirty. I was wondering if this means I have hard water.. or just water with sediments in it.. thanxs a bunch guys, happy growin'

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | "hard water" sediments don't settle out. It just means there's stuff floating in the water. no big deal. As long as the water is moving (i.e. not stagnant, growing nasty things), that should be a good source of water. Just make sure it's not the outfall pipe from a papermill up-stream, pumping out dioxin or something ![]()

![]() | Sediment is the life of the bed of moving water! Sediment is minrals(sp) that have been washed down stream in spring and settle everywhere, and then in turn serve as the nutrients for all plant life, which animal life eats and so on and so forth! It depends weather your creak is healthy then the water is good no matter if there is any sediment in. If you don't want to buy a PH test kit just look around and if youy know the history of the land around you should be able to be able to deduce if the creak is healthy.

![]() | Well, my grandfather and my greatgrandfather lived here before me and drank from the same creek.. I have lived here about 10 years, no ill effects lol... I live in the mountains you wont find any papermills around these parts.. I do have a ph test kit, says the water is around 7.5-8ph. I figured it was a good thing to have these sediments.. Isn't a tester to test the ppm quite expensive like 100$+? anyways thanks all for the info, I think I deem my water safe and healthy :P

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if theres no paper mill or major factories up stream then you shouldn't be worried about the water you having flowing there booyah......go ahead and just water your plants with out any worries....heck you've been there and drinking the water for years now, and i'm sure there are plenty of other plants and flora that use the creek water with no ill effects....tho your ph does seem on the high side.....but then again i'm not sure where the ph levels should be for a natural running creek/stream....then again it could be reading some thing deposited up stream somewhere or some one pissing in the water too.... ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The quality of water may be totally different than when your pop and grandpop used to drink out of it...Around here, the more dense the population, the more sewage ends up in the creeks and rivers...septic tanks overflow, malfuntion...Industry can be a problem if up stream... Contaminants hang around a long time if introduced. You are going to injest these plants and wouldn't want to freebase any PCB's/Dioxen, or bacteria's from somebodys poop tank! One of the things I did for an un-named company ---cough--GE--cough, was to clean up and monitor waterlanes...and it's made me pause when it comes time to eat fish caught from a lake, ect... 90 miles from here, that un-named company had the largest PCB (Polychlorinatedbyphenals---see, told ya I know about 'em) dump in American history. But thousands of unsuspecting fisherman go about doing thier thing without a care in the world...It can't be cleaned up. They just keep counting down the half life of the crap. Wow, I digressed hugely! Anyway...one more thing. You can take a sample and give it to a water filter company and many of them will test if for free for the chance of selling you a bunch of filters...Just tell them it came from a well... Or not ![]() Wow, where did I get off too...too many brain cells fried. JW | ||
