PH When feeding and watering
permalink

So i have another questions with regards to PH. Now the PH for the soil should be an average of 6.5. When watering and feeding, should the plain H2O be at a PH of 6.5, and the water with the nutes be at 6.5 also? Basically everything at the same PH?

Yes.

and to add insult to injury, the soil should be the same pH as the water, at least as close as possible. Don't rely on water to raise or lower soil that's off pH - it will only cause fluctuation and pH shock/nute lock etc.

Tip: pH your water before AND after mixing ferts.

I have been adjusting my water to 6.0 ph are you saying that it is better to be at 6.5. Another question is do you need to flush soil before harvest or should you just stop using ferilizers 2 weeks before harvest.

The general guideline for ph is between 5.8 and 6.3 according to Ed Rosenthal in "The Best of Ask Ed," I usually test my water after adding nutes and then balance to ph 6. I wait a while and re-check, I use a Hanna PhPen which makes this all very nice. I understand one of the reasons for having your ph in this range is to prevent fertilizer from "lockout" which is when the ph is too far in either direction and this prevents some nutrients from being able to be absorbed by the plant. Also the nutes interact - for example (not necessarily accurate, its just an example) if the ph is too low and this causes buildup of a nutrient this can then cause a different nute to become unavailable as well, or too much of a nute due to a ph swing can cause problems with the plant growth.

I have had some people suggest that adjusting the ph with ph up or ph down can cause problems as well with soil growing, these elements can apparently kill beneficial organisms which grow naturally in the soil. I am primarily a hydro grower, so my background is weak in this area.

I think you stop feeding at around two weeks before harvest, then flush the plants a few times.

Hope this helps,
Gooster

Thanx for the help gooster. I adjust my water let sit 48-36 hr then adjust agian after adding fertilizers. I'm on day 33 of 12/12 and gave first water of no nutes just ph adjusted water. My tap water is 8-8.5 so I have used ph down for the first time this grow. This is my 3rd grow and it looks much nicer then before and this is the only thing that I changed. So if you were to ask me I would say ph down will not hurt plants in soil. If anyone has examples of when it has I would love to hear them.

SnappyDog, who has a pretty strong legacy of posting (Im new, just judging from the number of his posts as well as the tone and content of what I have read, he appears to know his stuff from what I have read, appeared to say that ph down/up may well cause negative effects in soil, if I understand him correctly, he said,
"You know the liquid nutes are sposed to be used with the all mix soil which is self ph buffering right? Therefore no need to add ph up/down out of interest What are you using for ph up&down anyway cos if its anything chem based you'll just be killing off the micro wotsit in the biobizz," in the thread titled "Top Max and Bio Bloom Feeding Frequency" at Marijuana Cultivation User Group > The Garden > Plant Food & Nutrients > Organics
Top Max and Bio Bloom Feeding Frequency url
http://www.hempcultivation.com/420/s...ad.php?t=88202
This is an interesting thread, and ties into this one, I hope you read it and tell us what your experiences are and what you think of the ideas shared there. I think its a great thread, lots of good suggestions. I didnt know about the potential for harm as SnappyDog brought up, until I read it there. Im looking for secondary support, please speak up if anyone can shine more light on this.
Peace,
Gooster

Yes you should be adjusting your water to 6.0 however I think the way you get there is where you get diffrent opions. I started adjusting my ph this grow and can see a huge improvment in the health of the plant. I am on day 34 of 12/12 and all but 2 leaves are still bright green.
