Bug confirmation. Spider mites?
permalink

I went and checked on the plants today and think I have a problem...Just want to confirm what these are if anyone has some ideas.

They are very tiny, incy-wincy and crawling around the tops of leaves and undersides and I noticed a very small, fine silk web around the first set of nodes.

Only three plants look infected and they are at week three of flowering. I filled up a two litre pressure pack and blasted the hell out of the entire plant with water (undersides also), then gave a good drenching with soap spray, waited one hour then repeated.

Thoroughly sweeped out the basement and sprayed all the surfaces with soap spray.

Hopefully this will do for the moment until i do a bit more research and find out what im dealing with.

Spider mites. The last picture also shows an egg just behind the abdomen of the mite. It is attached to the leaf near the vein.

You are dealing with the biggest smallest pain in the ass ever.

Eggs of the Spider Mite will be immune to most chemicals, and populations of mites can develop immunity in a matter of months, sometimes weeks.

If your plants are still in veg I recommend getting some Virgin or Cold Pressed Neem oil and making a spray... this will disrupt feeding, growth, and breeding of the mites. Then remove all of the worst-infested material ( make a clean cut with clean blade ) leaving a small amount of petiole to make a protection and abscision layer.

After this crop cycle, you will have to clean everything. Really. Even shit you didnt think the mites would hang out in.

If you keep their levels down and clean up between crops, you stand a good chance.

P.S. Their eggs may remain viable in the material you harvest, dont bring eggs from last crop into this crop!

If you can find a product with abermectin as the active ingredient you will find that killing mites is a relatively simple process. In the USA it is sold under the trade name of Avid, Dynamek in the UK.

I've been experimenting with insect preditors because I have sensitivity to chem sprays. I cant find too much on pyrithine. I use neem oil and ladybugs, which keep them at bay but does not irraticate them. Any added info on the pyrithine would be helpfull

p.s. all ive found is that it is an alkaloid derived from some spanish plant, not very indepth

Hmm..now that sounds like a treatment. Geograpically speaking I am located on the arse-end of the earth and alot of commercial remedies I hear about are not really an option for me.

I will try a few homemade, el naturale remedies first and see how i go.

I just had another look at that pic you are talking about. Look at that abdomen closely, I could be wrong but it looks like the eggs through the translucent skin of the abdomen...THAT IS DISGUSTING!
