Soil Growers: 1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Clone of my hydro plant 2. How old are your plants? Month and a few days from being cut. 3. How tall are your plants? Would be about 10-12" if straight up 4. What size containers are they planted in? 1.5 gallon rubbermaid shoebox type container 5. What is your soil mix? Promix potting mix, recommended by hydro store. 6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? When dry about 1/2 way down container, aged tap water with ppm of 60 after standing for a day or two. 7. What is the pH of your water? 6.5 8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? FF Grow Big and Big Bloom- late veg schedule 9. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? 2ft 2lamp T5, 6500k bulbs..same as always. 10. How close are your lights to the plants? about 2" from the tops, not burning them. 11. What size is your grow space in square feet? ?math...not good with that crap...it's a big cabinet. 12. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 80deg during flower lights on, otherwise about 75, 60% RH 13. What is the pH of the soil? I really should know this, but I don't have a soil test kit. Always adjust the water before I water though....my guess is around 6. 14. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? No bugs. 15. How much experience do you have growing? Second hydro grow, first time playing with dirt. Well, my soil clone mother was/is doing pretty well, but I noticed some wierd leaf discoloration and I'm not quite sure what it is. Seems to be affecting the older leaves mostly, starting at the bottom of the mainstem and working it's way up. The one older leaf I'm holding up in the pic looks almost bronze. The new growth is all green, but leaf edges are curling up a bit. I looked through the plant abuse guide and I thought maybe a Mg def, so I misted with epsom salt morning and night yesterday, and they look about the same...not sure how long that should take to work though. I never had do deal with any kind of nutrient problem...other than burning my hydro plants first time around. Hope one of you soil gods can help me out ![]() ![]()

I'm no expert...and having said that the only thing I can think is that maybe your nutrient mix is too strong, are you using the mix at full strength? If it's still rooting into the cube don't put any nutrients in it until it has re-developed itself. Also I'm not sure how it works but maybe just the shock of going from no soil to soil?

Just so you don't think Im making it up....I had a similar problem, I held off on the nutes for a couple waters, and my plants looked 100 times better. 1st Pic shows curling 2nd pic a couple of days later

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the reply- I'm kinda lost with soil. I thought I had the watering/feeding schedule down, but then this happend. It really isn't bad yet, which is why I'm trying to figure it out before it becomes a real issue. Anyone else want to take a stab?...or am I really just burning them again? -oh, and she's been potted for about 3 weeks, putting out lots of healthy new growth, so it's not a transplant shock thing.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nutes might be a bit strong - maybe a bit heavy on the iron and N. Hold back a bit, just plain water for the next couple waterings and you should be fine. My plants do that all the damn time. Don't sweat growing in soil, water-man. Soil is just a little slower. When you feed, feed a little lighter and wait a day or two to see the results. If they burn a little, then water a little heavier (plain water), but don't freak. heh, hehe just my $.02 good luck

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The nute overdose is a definite possibility, as is some kinda nute def. But I know there's a difference in optimum pH between soil and hydro (ie. hydro plants generally thrive at a distinctly lower pH than the pH required to make soil plants thrive) I don't know if I'm communicating that thought well at all Do a search for "St0ney's pH Chart" for soil/hydro...there's a link to it in ghostsmoke420's sig (I think that's where I find it- I'll add it to my sig one of these days...) That should explain it to you better than I could. You can use your hydro pH meter, or whatever device you hydro technical people use to determine the rough average pH of the soil. Here's how:When you have a problem with soil, a good general practice is to flush the soil well with properly pH'ed water (that is, twice the amount of water needed to fill the pot) You should get lots of runoff from this...use your pH meter...see the difference? Good luck clearing this up, I totally blew it for the 1 week I had to take care of my buddy's coco grow, that whole hydro thing is like magic to me, I'm never really sure how it actually manages to produce buds Good Luck matey! -the man with the golden nug ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | with pH, the leaves will curl - claw like and you will see nute lockout. I generally don't notice much discolorations at the first sign of ph variations

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | some of my old plants (before they were dead, before the lighting system fell on them) did the same thing to me. turned out they had nutrient burn. then when i took them out (after the lighting system fell on them) i also found they were rootbound. since rootbound doesnt seem like your problem...id say the former. but i'd seriously question any i was layin' down...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks everyone for the responses! I checked yesterday, and she'll probably need water tonight. I'll just use pH'd plain water this time around. She's been looking better with the foliar feedings of plain h2o, so burn/lockout was probably it. I'll update if it gets worse, but for now all is ok. Thanks again! ![]()
