Nutrient burn vs. Calcium deficiency. with pics
permalink

"When plants exhibit a Calcium deficiency the younger leaves are the first to show it as well as older leaves. The Leaf tips will die back, the tips may curl, and growth of the plant is stunted."
http://www.gardenscure.com/420/nurse...plants-ph.html

Also is true for nutrient burn. So how do you tell the difference?

I do not know if it is nute burn or Calcium deficiency.

Any thougths would be helpful

The two pics are from one plant.

My PPM is around 530 on a HANNA.

I have had them for 17 days now.
I backed off on the PPM because they looked like nute burn

Need more information, but I'm leaning toward burn-

Could happen easily with a pH issue that starts off as a burn and then turns into lockout.

The nursery questionnaire would help-

how old are these clones since rooting? Young clones can be sensitive to nutes for a few weeks.
when's the last time you calibrated your meter? (RO water makes a good hold-out if you don't have calibration solution on hand)
what pH are you running, with which nutrients?

Check out these sites for good pics on burns/deficiencies:
http://www.canna.nl/english/index1.html
http://www.mandalaseeds.com/html/nutrients1.html

Can't remember if it was Ed Rosenthal's or RC Clarke's book, where he says he's never seen a Calcium deficient plant - nut they look like N deficiencies, from what I recall. The crispiness looks more like a burn to me. If it is Ca, it's easily remidies by lowering pH below 5.8 to unlock Ca.

I'll check back to see if you do the nursery questionnaire - try to help you out.

I think thats your problem Botanicare is mostly organic which is not as easily soluble in water, therefore probably not being taken up into the fog in the proper quantities. Switch to General Hydro, Technaflora or any other brand of chemical fertilizers if you want to do the fogger technique

Basic cheat sheet:
Ec goes up, PH goes down=plants require less nutes.
Ec goes down, PH goes up=Plants require more nutes
Ec stable, PH goes up=Equilibrium=Good thang.
-OldPhart

-I'm still going with nute burn. I think the plants are too young and need to establish more before they can be nuted up again. How's the new growth? Stunted?

I'd run them on a 1/2-2/3 strength nutrient mix using tap water (tap has good levels Ca) That should cover both bases, and do that for a week. You should get perky new growth.

Sorry bro, I really dont think its nute burn. I've used botanicare nutrients before at 2600++++ ppm with no burn. In fact I would reccomend doubling your PPM's tigga if you plan on sticking with botanicare nutrients... But like I said in my last post, theyre not very soluable in water thus your going to constantly run into defficincies using them with a fogger. I've looked into this before, in fact I even emailed GreenAir products about it a couple years ago when they had their Shira foggers, and they said you needed to use chemical nutrients, as organics will not get properly taken up by the fog.

You have to remember we're dealing with a fogger technique here, so the regular pH chart doesn't do us much good.

Is it pure blend pro your using there bigtigga?
