Avid poisonous?
permalink

I'm just curious exactly how poisonous Avid is to a human. Should a home grower even be using this stuff? I as reading the EPA label from the site, and it seems pretty bad! LIke you should only apply with full protective gear..

Any info is GREATLY appreciated.

I will never use it. Follow the link above and see if you would, even if 25% of that is accurate.

Thank-you very much. I have used it in the past, and have taken mild precautions against exposure...But its impossible to avoid it unless you have the proper equipment, which I haven't. I haven't any interest in using a poison that requires protective gear anyway.

SO, my crop has a lot of mites. I am away and I decided to reconsider before having my beloved sister spray them for me.

I am inclined to just abandoned the crop and never grow again really, unless there is another treatment that could abolish the spider mites? Without avid I see no way to be able to grow indoors at all.

Thoughts?

Thanks again for your concern.

my thoughts on hardcore sprays:

  • use only on mother plants and vegetating plants not in flowering.
  • use a respiratory mask or filter at least rated for organic vapors.
  • use goggles.
  • wear long sleeved shirts and full coverage clothing.
  • wear rubber gloves.
  • read the instructions, pay attention to the reentry time. this means go do something for a few hours, away from the sprayed areas. (this is more of an issue where there is artificial air circulation, meaning the spray is constantly being moved around in the air.)

this is the procedure i follow when i use spinosad/conserve (for thrips)

Sorry to bump an old post, but i figured this thread was pre-established and appropriate

I'm planning on using avid in the near future, but was wondering about any potential dangers in spraying it *indoors* near rooms inhabited by people, although the room it will be sprayed in is not inhabited by people.
