Magnesium help needed
permalink

Hey All,

over the past several weeks I have noticed two of my plants have Mag deficiency. One is getting much worse. I am planning to flush; however, I want to treat the symptom as well.
I plan on vegging for several more weeks.
I have had no luck in finding Epsom salt, D.lime, or anything else (long story). Can I use the bloom nutrients which has a higher Mag concentration? Maybe using it to foliar spray?

I have been e-mailing with the company rep about their bio products line and received the concentrations:

BioOrganic Product specifications

Product name: BioOrganic Grow 4-1-5

Nutrient content (mass %):

Total nitrogen (N-Tot.): 3.6
Nitrate (N-NO3): 2.4
Organic nitrogen (N-Org.): 0.5
Water soluble potasse (K2O): 4.7
Magnesium oxide (MgO): 0.9
I ron , chelated (Fe): 0.017

Product name: BioOrganic Bloom 3-2-5

Nutrient content (mass %):

Total nitrogen (N-Tot.): 3.1
Nitrate (N-NO3): 2.1
Organic nitrogen (N-Org.): 0.4
Water soluble potasse (K2O): 4.7
Magnesium oxide (MgO): 1.2
I ron , chelated (Fe): 0.021

Cant find epsom salt? Is there no grocery stores in your area? Every one I've been to carries it in the personal care isle next to the q-tips. (people use it for soaking feet/bath etc.)

You could also get cal-mag plus or magical from the hydro store

doesn't seem wise to flush if you've got a deficiency.

Would the salts still be useful if they have a 'smell' to it? Like lavender or something? JW I have some and wouldnt mind using it

Well, if you live in the US that may ring of truth; however, I am not. I am American but find myself outside of the box for now and translating Epsom salt has proven quite difficult.

My Hydro shop is in another country, so quick action is not possible

I asked a friend and I think that I might be able to get some tomorrow. How do I use it though? Just foliar application? how will that effect my soil if fed directly?

Epsom salts should be pretty universal. If you're having trouble with translation, try "magnesium sulfate" - that's the chemical name. If that doesn't work, try MgSO4·7H2O. The magnesium sulfate part is just the first part, but that stuff is so hygroscopic it will absorb water out of the air, so it's normally found in its hydrate form, which the 7H2O designates.

You can apply it foliarly or just add it to the water you give it, it won't hurt the soil or anything unless you overdo it. Just mix 1-2 teaspoons in a gallon of water.

Sensi Cal Mg Grow is the best option if you can get it, though.
