ive tried a sulfur burner too. maybe i didnt try it long enough. i had it setup, i had it burning, then i got scared, of burning my plants, because while it was burning i was searching on the net for reports of plant burn with sulfur and i saw some, so i got scared and took it down and returned the burner.

here are some important points to remember about PM:

  • it thrives in same conditions as MJ. this makes control/eradication of this nuisance a challenge.

  • there are always PM spores in the air, all it takes is perfect conditions for an outbreak. ive grown for years in the same location without any PM, and then one day BAM, i had it. (im pretty sure it was from bringing in outdoor plants to trim, that had PM on them)

  • there is very little one can do with mj plants that are in full flower and have PM. MJ in veg stage is the stage one should attack PM and possibly cure.

ive been looking at sm-90 and one other spray, which also isnt supposed to be shipped to California, i forget the name, but its listed in Jason King's Cannabible series.

id like to just spray once, on the vegetating plants, and have the PM go away, as in cure. im tired of the band aid crap.

You will burn your plants with a sulfur burner if you've used neem oil or some simmilar product within 30 days. Thats probably where the burn reports came from... If you've not sprayed anything on your plants its perfectly fine in my experience... I've even used a little more sulfur in the burner than recommended before.

Great info here folks. Sprayed my outdoor garden today with the baking soda recipe, I woke up to PM - went to corner store for some soda came back and mixed up a few quarts. Noticed it w/in 24/hr on the tomato plants, shoulda hit the vines a week ago though.

bump.

Appearing kind of early this year on the 'maters.

death to Powdery Mildew! Die die die! .

Running out of Safers - will see if I can get it in bulk. Until then it's garlic and baking soda spray .

not always fatal but PM is a PITA.

I have used a rosemary tea as a way to battle PM. (link in signature) Simple, easy, cheap (if you have rosemary growing), and effective.

I stumbled upon it while looking at organic fungicides, and found one with rosemary oil as the active ingredient. Good luck on the PM, I HATE that crap!

Sulfur Burner
permalink

I have purchased a sulfur burner and sulfur pellets and
am amazed at how little information there is on the use
of the tool.

The burner didn't even come with directions.

The store owner told me to use it for 1/2 hour.
The customer in the store told me he used it for 5 hour stints.
I read where you should use it when your plants are dry.
I read where you should use it when your plants are wet.
I read where it should be used in the dark.

Today I found this: HERE
Quote:
Sulphur Burners - Your Best line of Defence against Powdery Mildew
Intended for greenhouse use, the sulfur evaporator is a great method for combating powdery mildew in the greenhouse or hobby greenhouse setting. They work on the principal of heating up and melting of rock sulfur, powder or flowers of sulphur at an ideal temperature that will completely and cleanly evaporate the sulphur without residue. Sulfur has been used for centuries for natural fungus and mildew control. Each sulfur evaporator will treat a 2600-3600 square feet. It is suggested that the sulfur evaporator be used as a preventative measure and should be used for half an hour each day or until tip burn is experienced-then reduce time. For example, if the sulfur evaporator is on for 10 minutes a day and tip burn is experienced then reduce time to 7-8 minutes or until tip burn does not occur.
I also read this, which explains the whole oil/sulfur deal:
Quote:
Do not use sulfur in any form if you anticipate the temperatures avove 90F, as it will likely burn the leaves. Also, do not apply sulfur in conjunction with a summer oil spray, as the combination can cause massive leaf burning. If an oil spray has been applied in the last 10 days, hold off on the sulfur for a few more days to prevent leaf burning.
Peace- OD

PM (powdery mildew) is herpes for weed....once you get it you have it for life.... the only thing you can do is maintain it..... you will never get rid of it unless you start over with mold resistant strains....bubba kush for exapmle doesnt get PM.

...............................................................Treatment............................ ........................................

Sulfur burners are great if you have alot of plants.....for use as preventative ( no pm showing on plants) burn for 2-3 hours once a week ....if you have pm burn for about 5-6 hours once a week ( twice a week if you have pm bad or until control if acheived)

people wet the plants to get the sulfur to stick to the leaves....that is not a nessary step

only use a burner with the lights off.

For the best coverage...most of the burners only treat about 1000 sq feet..... if you have 3000 sq ft thats 3 burners....

Dont use a burner in you have sprayed with any type of oil such as Neem for 2-3 weeks or you will burn your plants leaves.

If you only have a few plants Bakingsoda or 3% peroxide mixed with water will knock the PM back for about 4-5 days

.........................I recommend this product for small grows....................................................

If you want about 10 days inbetween treatment use Greencure GreenCure fungicide for curing and preventing powdery mildew, blights, molds and other plant diseases

The spreader that is already in this product is great if you stick a wet finger in the product and rub it inbetween your fingers it feels really slippery.....this gives you great coverage on the leaves nice and even.

You can spray this on your plant the day of harvest totally organic....

buy greencure here 8oz GreenCure Fungicide

Herpes for weed

What about preventative measures?

EDIT: Nevermind.

" 1. Plant in full sunlight in a well-drained area.
2. Do not crowd plants. Air flow and ventilation will discourage mildew growth.
3. Powdery mildew thrives where high rates of nitrogen have been used. High nitrogen promotes tender leaf formation, causing dense stands that are more susceptible to infections. Adequately fertilize but avoid stimulating succulent growth. Organic fertilizers or slow-release formulations of lawn fertilizers are good choices.
4. Prune infected plants to get rid of infected parts and increase airflow. If the infestations are severe, remove and destroy the plants that are infected.
5. Disinfect your pruning tool in a bleach solution of one part household bleach to four parts water after each cut.
6. Watering plants in the morning gives the plants the rest of the day to dry off, discouraging establishment of diseases, including powdery mildew."
