Possible Chlorine toxicity?
permalink

Hi guy's,
I'm relatively new to the site and have received some advice from Luke Highwalker that my plant maybe suffering nute burn based on this picture.

The thing is, i assumed it was because of a short amount of time between nutrient feeding of the plant.
The plant was given to me by a friend and was in an ice-cream tub. I had the plant for a few days before i decided to check the root level. It was obvious that the plant was in danger of becoming root bound so i changed the pot from the ice-cream tub to an old protein tub with some fresh soil that i purchased from a nearby plant store.
Once i had changed the over the pots i gave the plant a nutrient feed which was already mixed for me by my friend. What i forgot to ask was when he last fed the plant.
Because i wanted to control the lighting habits according to my own routine, i left the light on for the plant over night and changed the lighting to an 18:6 cycle the next day.
After the first week of me owning it the plant went from looking like this:

To looking like this:

and this is how it looks today:

The thing is, some of the fan leaves are slightly curled at the tips and Luke Highwalker suggested that it might be nute burn. But after reading the Plant Abuse Chart by Nietzsche i'm not so sure.
Is it possible that it could be that my plant doesn't like the chlorine levels present from tap water?
I made up 3 seperate spray bottles of water, all PH'd to around 6.3 and i've had to spray the leaves recently because of the hot weather that we've had and the humidity dropping to as little as 43% but that has only been for the last 2 days.
I've not done to badly in maintaining the temperature and humidity levels and i've managed to average them out to about 68* - 72* and 59% - 65%.

My set up is a grow room which measures 7'x7'x7'
Light cycle is 18:6 using a 125 watt blue spectrum CFL
Light is hanging 12" above the plant which is turned once a day to allow as much even light on the plant as possible.
Plant is 3 weeks old and measures 10" in height. It has grown 3" approx in 10 days.

she looks fine to me, a bit nutrient burnt. I've never seen a case of chlorine toxicity from tap water. Spread the feedings out a bit more. keep on keeping on, your doing well

Thanks guy's,
I forgot to add that i water the plant every other day (or when the soil feels a little dry) and that nute feeds are every 5 days.
I'm thinking that either the soil is a little nutrient rich or the nute mixture is a little to high. It had been 5 days between the last nutrient feed and still the fan leaves look the same.
Based on what you've seen, how much longer do you think that i will have to wait in order to take as many as 12 cutting from her?
I want her to be big and strong enough to take it so i was thinking maybe another 2 - 3 weeks of further growth should do it.

chomerly--Boy I'm not seeing where people are saying you got nute burn in any of these pictures myself.

I see a nice plant, one that looks like it was going thru a transplant, and the last picture, the tips are down it looks like cause it was just sprayed down with water real good most likely brought your tips down cause of the lower humidity you are hitting, no real problems though, you will still be fine in that range, mine do that all the time with a lower humidity.

I'm feeding plants that size full nutes and every watering, so doubt you are too high unless there is something strangely high you are feeding it every 5th watering.

Great looking plant, I don't see any problems going on in these pictures that is out of the norm for a transplant. IMHighO

Within 2 weeks you should be able to take those clones, the bigger you take them, the higher your chance for success with them. Go for over 4 inches each and you should be fine.

Happy Growing

alleycat. I dont see anything that id get too overexcited about there. Maybe i just have low standards but they look as good as anything i have that i call healthy. If anything appears odd about them id attribute it to the initial small container and the following transplant woes.
