Lavender and rosemarry effective against mites!!
permalink

Hey there!!
So, the story goes like this:

I grow lots of different types of plants including, mint, peppermin, salvia officinalis, orregano, datura str, peppers... and yes, I've grown cannabis too...
So my weed plants were happy in the closet till they got the bastard spidermites...
...so I had the smart idea putting my plants from the closet to the balcony and spay them frequntly, so the cold and humidity kills the mites. And it worked quite well too!
But the problem was that ALL the other plants were infested with spidermites too after that! ( exept peppers and lavender )

So this friend of mine had a problem with fleas recently and the dermatologist gave him the option of lavender oil, neem oil or eucalyptus oil as a reppelent or insectcide..

I use my lavender bush to hide them in my balcony during summertime when growing in the closet is impossible. The plants were entwined somehow with the lavender bush in winter too when I was taking them out for mite treatment.

Hearing the neem oil and the lavender oil in the same sentance, combined with my experience with my plants, I got into the temptation of googling that subject and look what I found!!

"Table 1 summarizes the procedures employed and observations made in various efficacy
tests. Tests 7 and 8 on Table 1 suggest that liquid formulations of rosemary and lavender
oil each at 2% concentration, is effective against both aphids and spider mites. The final
formulation of the 2% rosemary-lavender mixture, caused 94.9 ± 3.650 mortality of mites
on roses and 100% mortality of aphids on peppers."

Also eucalyptus has a reputation of reppeling efficiently roaches from houses, and someone told me that read that in a greenpeace leaflet.

So, give lavender to your plants!
It may even add to the taste!
I use my lavender bush to hide them in my balcony during summertime when growing in the closet is impossible.

You can find lavender and rosemary oil in herbal shops. Here its impossible finding neem oil at quite reasonable prices... definately more reasonable than neem oil!

Nice piece of information, Not guilty ... I wonder what would happen if you put a lavender plant in the cabinet? Not that I have a problem with mites, but have in the past; maybe a new form of keeping those little fu@kers in check ...

Looking through an issue of "The Indoor Gardner Magazine," and saw an interesting ad. According to richters.com, "dried Lavender and Marjoram in your closets will keep mites at bay!" Interesting website beyond that also.

Two essential oils, lavender and tea tree oil, have been implicated in causing gynaecomastia, an abnormal breast tissue growth in prepubescent boys. An article in the New England Journal of Medicine claimed that the use of shampoo and similar products, containing lavender and tea tree oils, in three boys resulted in this condition.[6] Professor Ieuan Hughes, a child hormone specialist at the University of Cambridge has claimed "... these oils can mimic oestrogens" and "people should be a little bit careful about using these products". [7][8].
