Oh noes, will this heal?
permalink

So I went outside yesterday and one of my plant pots got blown/knocked over. The weight of the pot bent and cracked the stem near the base of the soil, It didn't break off, but also while it was lying on the ground, bugs straight dominated the leaves and they are filled with holes.

I propped the pot back up, put it half way in the ground, put the plant in the soil and stuck sticks around the plants stem. I used twist ties to support the plant stem so that it isn't falling over and bending....

Basically will the plants stem heal at the base down there if it is cracked/bent but being held up straight?

Hard to say.MJ is very resilient and can come back from some nasty set backs.I think I would also add a wrap of garden tape to keep bugs from getting in.

The main thing to do is support the broken stem with a splint of some sort. It sounds like that is what you did. Give it a few days at least to begin to heal itself. If the top leaves wilt and die off after a few days be prepared to do some pruning. Right now stabilize the break and be patient.

Yeah a lot of the leaves look really droopy and wilted. I think it's from not getting light for 3 days (assuming it fell the day I watered them etc) I kinda put a twisty tie around the stem and a little branch branching off of it to support it like a cast so it can heal in position.

ALL the leaves on the plant are facing down to the ground so hopefully a little sun will perk them up.

So there were bugs on the ground but none had climbed up the plant stem to get to the leaves before? Had one bent over from the wind once and it grew like crazey sideways. just saying maybe it would have been better for the patient to have not been moved, just taken care of the bug problem.
my thoughts

my thoughts
The plant was in a pot and the ONLY bugs I've ever seen on my plant are flying bugs.

I've secured the plant pot now though.... put heavy logs supporting it around it so it just cant blow over.

I don't know why any plant pot maker would make it so the bot is heavier at the top, soil wise. As long as the stem can repair it's self at the bottom the plant will be fine.
