![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if you are seeing little spots on your leaves, you may have thrips. a close inspection with a magnifying glass on the back of the leaves may show critters. i wonder about the water/light issue myself. i had a next door neighbor who would come by (uninvited) and water my plants. (just regular plants, lol) he did this once on a hot ass day. the next day the leaves were all funked up. i wondered if maybe the sun hadn't heated up the water droplets and caused the damage. still don't know....

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | • There are many causes of leaf scorch, but irrigation with fresh water is certainly not one of them. We dont irrigate with fresh water. • Any time plants exhibit drought stress symptoms is the time to water them we arent talking about not watering wilted plants because the sun is up. i would never wait till the lights were out to water my plants if they were showing signs of droop or wilt. • Salt can enter a plant’s microhabitat by spray from the ocean or other salt water bodies, or by runoff from road deicing salts. These are relatively localized occurrences and far more damage occurs with salts in soils or irrigation water. Some of these salts come from over-application of fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides. so you are saying spraying salts on the leaves CAN hurt them, but letting you plant wilt all day without water will hurt them more than just watering them mid day? wow....who woulda thunk it. • Do not overuse fertilizers and pesticides, especially those containing sodium or chloride salts • If using recycled or gray water, consider running the water through a filtering system before applying it to plants we are using all of these and no filters. at no time in this article did i ever see him mention spraying mineral rich water on the leaves would in no way hurt them. he did give an example of plants not being used to salty environments being stressed from the sudden application of salts however. i have no phd. hell im not even smart. it seems like everything in this article is pointing to leaves pointing up at the margin, like from wind burn or just regular nute burn. caused by salts built up in the leaf. As far as i can tell this article as about burning your plants from underwatering, or following the belief you should only water during the evening. Leaf tips turning up, burnt margins... i coulda swore the whole point of this thread was localized yellow spots on random leaves, mid leaf. Yes, fertilizer salts in water can burn leaves, but that is another situation entirely. The point of my posts is to dispel the myth that misting with water causes leaf spot because water droplets act like magnifying glasses focusing light rays to burn the leaves. I do not know what caused the yellow spots on the leaves, but I do know they weren't caused by misting under the lights.

![]() | Thanks for all the responses. Thread in the Nursery section - got it. I took a better look at both sides of the leaves as per suggested and agree, there are traces of minerals on the leaves, so think the idea of them being chemical burns is quite likely. Will switch to misting with distilled water. (shit, buying water again... damn i hate buying water) But it is quite obvious now with all the comments that my tap water is not doing them any good, and will suck it up as I do love these plants. Thanks to all who replied. I am so glad I found you guys. Am really enjoying browsing through people's knowledge and ideas. Really can't talk about this stuff with anyone I know as the only other growers I know are out in Cali. Just too dangerous on the phone. Cheers.
