Well as some of you know I have been experiencing difficulties. I picked up some things at my local hydro shop. Hygrozyme, digital PH tester(finally), and some CaMg+. I had some brown root issues too. I know the yellow leaves(lack of N) was my fault. The spotting was most likely a Ca problem. So before I added anything I did my ppm and PH test. Those liquid testers are not very accurate. Anyways I tried out the new digital and my PH read 5.9. PPM was 862. So I added 10 ml of Hygrozyme and 10 ml of CaMg+. New PPM is 1115. Within 24 -36 hours I noticed explosive new root(WHITE)growth and the plant is looking great. I do have a question though. Since the lower leaves are really yellow and horrid looking, would it be safe to just cut them off? Also, here are the specs on the PH tester I bought. I paid $80.00 for it so I hope it is worth it. My questions about it are, how often do I need to calibrate it? Also when not in use, the guy at the hydro store told me to just keep the cap and probe wet. Like mist it with plain water after I use it then replace cap. Is this what I should be doing?

A mist is not enough, probe needs to be submerged. Calibration is up to you. More you do it the more accurate. Almost every meter drifts off .1 or .2 over a few weeks.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Some people calibrate theres every month. But I'm assuming they have higher end models that may be more stable. I'm using the HANNA combo pen, not too expensive but not really cheap either, and have been calibrating it every week just to be sure. It does not take long so I figure I might as well. The directions say on yours that it's "1 point calibration", which I'm guessing means only calibrates the low OR the high of the pH spectrum for reference and not both like a 2 point calibration would do. I'm still getting aquainted with the process, but this is what I've been told. Hopefully someone will chime in and stop me if I'm wrong. Glad to see you got your hands on some Hygrozyme. I went out and got mine last week and have been really happy I did. With the addition of the Hygrozyme, it looks as though I will be able to raise the dead. I may need to get some CaMg+. What were you using before? Keep us informed on how things turn around for you. Oh ya, and the roots you show us in the pic, are they the same roots that were brown and begining to rot?

Glad to see the Hygrozyme really cleaned things up. I haven't checked my roots yet, but I'm guessing I've got similar results. The plant is extremely perky right now.

Letting leaves fall off themselves usually means no nutrients are left, and there is usually no cut to heal. Cutting them off will simply make them do what they were doing to a new set of leaves until problem is solved. No need to snip leaves. half dead or nearly dead. ![]()
