![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have battled whiteflies for years with only some minor respites. I have come to the conclusion that they will always be a part of my grow. I use insecticidal soap spray on a regular basis (at least once a week and sometimes as often as three times a week). I have had some success with predator insects. Encarsia formosa is a tiny wasp that preys on the larval stages of whiteflies, and this wasp gave me relief from the whiteflies for a couple of months. The Delphastus pusillus is a beetle that is supposed to be a great whitefly killer. My results with them were less than stellar. Ladybugs do little to nothing to keep whiteflies in check and praying mantids even less. I have sprayed Avid against spider mites and it had the added benefit of killing off the whiteflies for a short time. Horticultural oil sprays are somewhat effective, but it is easy to burn plants with it. I have used the Beauveria bassiana fungus with little to no success, but I am considering giving it another try for a longer time period. No matter what you choose to attack the whiteflies you must make sure to get spray coverage on the undersides of the leaves. That's where the larvae live. Be persistent and don't let them get too far out of control or the battle can get very discouraging. Late summer is the worst time of year for them in this part of the country. I can watch them in the early morning still air these days flitting around like so many tiny white dots. I don't have the magic bullet for you. Should you discover one, please contact me immediately. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() | Talking from experience (retired chemical applicator at wholesale nursery), I agree that these liitle "buggers" are difficult to control......adults are attracted to sticky yellow cards (commercially available or make your own!) & populations can be reduced this way.....but you'll need to spray the undersides of leaves to get better control (I would use something safe for a crop being consumed later -- no use in poisoning yourself!) I hope this helps.....be sure to do repeat (spray) applications until control is reached. Good luck! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just finished ordering a batch of Encarsia and some lacewing eggs at Planet Natural.com because they have free shipping on their insect orders now. The cost of shipping beneficials is usually as much as the insects themselves. Yellow cards with a thin film of tree tanglefoot will definitely trap adults. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Aqua Net those fuckers. They'll get sticky, stiff, then die....with their wings adhered to their eyes. When other flies come around and see what happened to the Aqua Netted flies...they'll turn tail and leave your garden alone for good.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Whatever you do, don't make the mistake I just made. I sprayed my flowering plants with Safers Insecticidal Soap. The plants were about 18 days into flower and had beautiful white erect pistols all over each flower. The spray not only withered them, but it's been about a week and they have not grown since. I may have ruined my whole crop.... I should have just sprayed the bottoms of the leaves and that was it. I should not have let it get on my flowers. I'm praying that they grow out of it soon and confused about what to do... I can't decide wheather to ditch these plants and replace with new ones, or just take the smaller yeild I'm going to create for myself. I like the shopvac method for getting rid of whiteflies. Turn off all your fans while standing by with the shopvac ready to turn on. When you turn off your fans the little buggers will start buzzing around. If they don't then shake the shit out of your plants and wait 10 seconds and they will appear. Then hold the hose over the plants and they'll fly right into it. Careful not to suck in your budz. I've done it, it's no fun. If you employ this method every few days it will help a lot.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You didn't do anything to your flowers except to burn some pistils, CRAZYTRAIN. The buds will continue to grow. Before spraying any kind of insecticide on your plants make sure that they are not thirsty. ![]()
