Bagseed
Soil - FFOF/Pro-mix/perlite
9 days since sprout
Distilled water only
mixed CFLs
good temps, good airflow
40% humidity
no nutes

It looks droopy and overwatered, but it's only been watered once and lightly sprayed with distilled several times to keep the humidity up.
New growth DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. It's coming in very dark. The whole plan just looks bad compared to its peers.

Looks the ph may be off re: twisting leaves. Can you give us more details by filling out the nursery questionnaire? thanks.

I'd also increase humidity to around 60% if you can. At least give it a dome. 60% RH will help plants in veg quite a bit.

Does your perlite have nutrients in it by any chance? The combination of the nutes in the FFOF and the perilite could overnute a small plant. Also some sativa strains don't like to start out in FFOF. It's rare but the PPP will burn up as a seedling in the FFOF. If the perlite has no nutes then I would guess the plant needs water. Only one watering seems a little light for the size of the plant. What are your temps? I'm guessing it needs water.

Under watering looks like over watering in MHO. If you have a similar sized container floating around fill it with the same mix and water it in real nice. Water till the "juice" starts to flow out. Wait ten minutes, then water again till the "juice" runs out. Wait another ten minutes. Now you have a comparison with one fully watered container and the one you have based on weight. If they are the same, then you have probably over watered that one. If the one with the plant in it is much lighter, then it needs water. Also be sure that your containers have holes in them to let the excess water drain out. The top of the soil looks dry to me.

May The Force be With You!

I've heard that twisting is signs of a PH problem, but given the fact that it's gotten nothing but distilled water (with a few drops of SuperThrive, barely any) and it's in new FFOF/pro-mix, I didn't think a PH problem was possible.

I've never heard of using a dome after the seedling has started to show leaves. Could this problem be humidity related? Have you ever seen this dark, almost black new growth? Full questionairre below:

1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Bagseed
2. How old are your plants? 9 days from breaking through the soil
3. How tall are your plants? Under 2"
4. What size containers are they planted in? Plastic nursury cups, maybe 3"x3"
5. What is your soil mix? 40%FFOF/40%plain pro-mix/20%perlite. New everything. The perlite does not have nutes.
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? Distilled only so far. Used a few drops of Superthrive, but mostly it's been plain distilled. After planting in moist soil, I've only really watered once, the rest has been spraying the plant and soil. The pot is light.
7. What is the pH of your water? Didn't think I needed to PH balance distilled water.
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? None yet except for a few drops of superthrive.
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? I've sprayed it a few times with distilled or distilled/superthrive. The top layer of soil dries out very quickly, so I've sprayed to keep that moist a few times.
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 42w CFLs, mostly 6500k
11. How close are your lights to the plants? About 3"
12. What size is your grow space in square feet? About 6 square feet
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? Temps 70-75, humidty 40-45%
14. What is the pH of the soil? Don't know
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? No
16. How much experience do you have growing? Not much

It sucks that underwatering looks like overwatering. What a pain!

I could be underwatering as the pot is very light and definitely not waterlogged. I was planning on watering tonight so I'll stick with that plan.

Would that explain the fact that the new growth is coming in almost black? Is that burning? I've heard that FFOF is sometimes too hot for seeds, which is why I went 1/2FFOF and 1/2 plain pro-mix. Could it still be too hot?

Could it be SuperThrive related? I've barely used any and certainly less than the bottle's recommendation.

I don't believe that SuperThrive is considered a nute. It's supposedly just a vitamin supplement that is recommended for young plants to stimulate root growth. I've heard of people putting in the water when they are germing seeds in a cup!

I don't see how it could be the ST, but I'm open to suggestions.

try giving it distilled with tap, or just phed tap. ph it to 6.5. I think how neutral the distilled is is giving you issues.
