![]() | hydro Growers: 1. Are you growing from seed or clones? seeds 2. How old are your plants? 10 days 3. How tall are your plants? 3.5 inches 4. What type of hydro system are you using? "Indoor Growing Systems" Top feed system in coir - 6" pots seedlings tplanted in peat pellets- recovery system with 20 gallon res, feeding 15mins on/ 45mins off every hour 5. What brand/type of nutrients are you using? "Ionic grow for coco/soil" n-p-k 2-1-2 / mix = 2 cups/20 gallon res+ "Floracicious grow" n-p-k 1-0.7-0.6 / mix = 1/3 cup in 20 gallon res 6. What is the Ph of your nutrient solution? 5.47 7. What is the PPM/EC of your tap water? Using "Hanna combo meter w/atc" PPM = 6/ ec=0.014 8. What is the PPM/EC of your nutrient solution? ppm=922/ ec=1.847 9. What is the temperature of your nutrient solution? 72.9 f 10. Does your PPM/EC show a rise or fall when you do your daily PPM check? about the same every day 11. Does your pH show a rise or fall when you do your daily check? about the same every day 12. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? I sprayed 3 days in a row with "Garden Safe" insect killer (0.02% pyrethrins, 0.2% piperonyl butoxide, technical) 13. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 400W MH 14. How close are your lights to the plants? 20 inches 15. What size is your grow space in square feet? Room is 120 sq ft, growing space is in corner of open room 16 sq ft 16. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? Room temp 76.8 f / plant tops 80.6 f / RH = 39% 17. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? Saw a moth 3 days ago (see question #12) 18. How much experience do you have growing? A little, this is my first hydro grow, grew one small grow in soil 2 yrs ago. I started them after germination in peat pellets using a 1/3 solution of ionic and water, they showed roots through the pellets in 7 days. I planted these still in the peat pellets as soon as white roots were visible outside the pellets. Growing in coco coir only. Total of 9 plants, having trouble with some but not all of them. My seedlings have lime green new growth and one has yellow tips on new set of leaves, otherwise they look pale green ok. I am worried that the peat pellets are soggy, but are planted in coir that is not. My moisture meter does not give good measurement. I think it is erratic because of so much space in the coir.

![]() | My ec is 1.8, is this too high for seedlings? Should I add more fertilizer? How long can you store liquid fertilizer? Is my ph a little low at 5.4?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if they are 10 days from seed, they should be on 1/4 strength nutrients or maybe 1/2, and hopefully weren't given nutrients from day 1-9 (I read you used ionic after the germination process)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I respectfully disagree with our esteemed moderator. I feel that after the first pair of true leaves are formed, then it's time to hit them with nutes (1/4 strength or a bit more perhaps) and that is not dictated by number of days. I understand that a seed stores enough energy to get it to that stage in a healthy manner. After that, a lack of nutes slows down growth and stresses the plant. The extremely conservative approach of no nutes for 10 days or more is common practice and may not hurt your plant long term, but I don't feel it helps ensure vigorous growth as soon as possible. That is the science as I understand it. I want as many leaves as soon as I can and higher nute levels will give you this. Check out my grow journals and see how well it worked for me. In fact last winter UpNorth and I were growing the same Snow White strain in hydro. He germed more than a week before I did but my growth passed him so quickly that he changed his strategy and upped his nute levels. ![]() Peace, Spud

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It sounds like you have plenty of food and your numbers are good. pH, I'd argue for a few ticks higher, but you're not totally off the charts. You sprayed seedlings for 3 straight days with insecticide. You might start there. Just what caught my eye in the form. -CR

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i take the hippie approach to things. IMHO-- aprox 900ppm, i.e. 1.8ec is too high for a seedling 10 days from sprout, i mean... they are 3.5"! those are infants... thats what my full sized plants get (I do run lower numbers than most.) of course it wouldn't be something to analyze if the plants were in perfect health, just an inkling to what may be wrong. (which may also be me )Last edited by g1ithc; 10-28-2009 at 11:31 PM..

![]() | Thank you for the friendly advice, you guys are awesome. I feel better knowing I have a place like this to ask questions. I am new to hydro and want the best for my ladies (I hope they are ladies). I am pushing the little guys a bit by feeding full strength nuts, but, they put out roots so fast that i figured they could take it. Overall they look healthy. Last night I changed my pump timer to 30mins on/30mins off, maybe they were drying out too much in between feedings? My first experience with coco coir, seems to drain almost as soon as feed stops. I would post some pics, but don't know how. Is it safe to post pics?
