Caterpillars in my weed. What to do?
permalink

I have caterpillars in my weed. I have about 2 weeks before harvest. I have been picking them out and the buds don't see too worse for wear. Should I just keep picking them out or spray them with something? Don't want to f..k up the bud.

Thanks
DD

there's an organic bacterial pesticide called "bacillus thuringiensis" that is used for caterpillars, and wont harm you

you can also use something to smear on the stems so they cannot travel upwards called "tanglefoot", or I believe you could try vaseline (on bare stem)

since you are late in flower, i would stay away from pyrethrum sprays

of course pick as many off as you can!

if you don't think picking them off is a solution, try the link below

I would Pick em off AND SMOKE EM

DD, there is a spray that is food grade OK, that will get rid of the catapillers,Neam oil will not do it. but I don't know how it would affect that close to harvest.

So just pick em' and see?

Since it sounds like a spray option is my only route at this point what do people think about just picking them off? I would prefer not to mess with spays this close to finish.

I assume the caterpillars will just leave once I cut down the plant and it begins to dry up? Do you think they have done and real damage? I have only found about a dozen and I check it quit frequently.

I think I know the answer to this question without asking it but would you smoke it?

Thanks
DD

is it just adult caterpillars you're finding, or are there like eggs, and webs, and babies?

mine are from moths, have had green and brown hoopers, a brown sluggy one and a green one with a stripe down the side.

best hunting time is just after lights on; a foliar of water to make them move helps.

I joked that the buds chomped, the green stripeys population made it through to full flower, could be more potent. But so far the ones trimmed of sugar leaf and hair by the caterpillars, are filling out more.

The ones where they chomped into the bud, had dead bits and in a couple of instances possible mould starting.

They are a pain. lol nigel

Monterey Garden Insect Spray, it is OMRI listed and works great on any bugs that eat your plant, except spider mites, so it does not harm the beneficial predatory insects. Good stuff.

Problem with caterpillars is that they bore into your buds and make a home in there, the next thing you know you have a problem that looks like black mold, the buds turn black and start falling apart, pretty much ruined one of my grows the first time it happened.

I treat with the Monterey Insect Spray 2 or 3 times during flower and have never seen another Caterpillar. This stuff is pretty safe, no warning label about poisoning, skin contact, etc.

Good luck, you don't have much time. peace bro

Pick em off, if they haven't done much damage yet I doubt they will in the next 2 weeks. Put 'em in a local park or something, let 'em become butterflies.

Got kids, or some curiousity? put 'em in some big jars or aquariums and feed them trim or whatever they'll eat and see what they turn into.
