Nicotine spray and spider mites?
permalink

I read about making a Nicotine spray for spraying plants to kill spider mites. To make the spray you soak one cup of cigarette buts in one gallon of water for between 24-48hours and when the water looks like iced tea you remove the buts from the solution if it is darker you dilute it with water then strain and spray plants. Is nicotine spray effective with spider mites? Also can the nicotine get absorbed by the plant and effect the end smokable product?

Dont us ashy butts. use some Bugler or something. steep 10-15 g in some hot water overnight, mix in a drop or two of additive-free detergent, and turn the lights off and spray. It does work well, especially if you have had a consistent problem and the mites are becoming immune to your current solutions.

Remember, nicotine is toxic to just about everything so water it down.

I prefer Neem oil if its just the start. Easy to find and good shelf life

You can also add cinnamon oil to the spray, but nicotine is pretty good. Soap helps it stick better, but only a drop does it.

Nicotine will also break down in about 3-4 days, up to a week indoors, so you won't have tobacco buds.

Be sure you get under the leaf too.

I've used tobacco spray before when I started growing, worked well.

I used a half can of tobacco, steeped it in water, strained it, filled up my spray bottle and went to town...

I think theres one step which i think involves microwaving the tobacco, to remove any potential "mosaic virus" so it doesn't spread to the cannabis... I can't remember the exact details however

methylated spirits and soap work very well as well, but don't use it if you've got a decent development of pistils. (white hairs)

15ml spirits (1 tbsp) 5ml dawn naturel dish soap (1 tsp) to 1 liter or 1 quart of distilled water. repeat in 5 days to get all the eggs that were unhatched.

I've had good luck with it, but I now only use Plant Vitality from B.A.C. 100% bio, one spray and those buggers are toast, eggs and all. not to mention it's only good for the plant and you can use it up to 6 hours before harvest. soft enough for freshly cut clones as well. can't get any better then that.
