growth explosion, but not getting taller (pics)
permalink

Hey guys my girls have been having a growth explosion but they don't seem to be growing taller? Could my recent PH problems caused problems or do you think its something else? The strains are AK47 (pic 4) and Erkle Wreck (pic 1,2,3,5). Both gals were from seed. Picture 5 shows the stumpy stem and the media. I was wondering if the media was too small? The stems look like three trunks but stubby. My friends higromite is much larger almost 3/4" as you can see in my photo mine is 1/2"-1/4". All of my gals from seed are growing like this. Any ideas?

Honestly looks great, shes getting plenty of light I assume so no need to stretch much.

Some strains stretch more than others, great job, and I would start doing some training on her, she looks like she will take it very well.

On a side note, it may be a little hot in there or dry, the sides of the leaves have a little curl to them. I don't think that would cause the plant not to go up though.

Thanks for the tip I noticed the curled leaves. the humidity is kind of low from the AC. I have the room sealed off to make use of the Co2 system. Do you think I should get a humidifier or just give them a misting now and then?

Also what you you mean by training?

LST, low stress training...Is just when you tie down taller branches, to make the smaller ones come out. It makes the plant grow bushier rather that taller, wich indoors is usually best.

The leaf curl could be from a slight lack of magnesium. Or it could also be from heat. Whats the temp in there around canopy level?

No need to be misting. How bad is the humidity? I wouldnt worry about a humidifier unless its in the 30's.

I've been reading up on sea of green training which I wanted to attempt but my ladies are looking pretty short so I don't know what to do. I used Cal-Mag plus on the lower part of the scale. 23ppm RO mixed to 180ppm should I dose in some more? The temp at canopy is pretty cool due to the air cooled hood and AC in the room 75 degrees constant. RH is 30% on the dot. Does the lil girl in picture 1 look normal? she's showing her legs in picture 5? The leaf growth is nice but she's stubby. I'm using a 1000k MH at 24" I didn't want to move the light up and lose lumens.. Am I just worrying for no reason? Or is it my affection for tall blondes with long legs getting the best of me?

Most indoor pharmers hate stretchy plants. Consider yourelf lucky.

Really, if you want them to stretch, raising lights should help. But they will stretch durring flower transition. How much is unknown, but all plants do

Im not a hydro grower but your plants dont look bad at all. If those temps you say are correct, i would say that leaf curl is most likely from magnesium shortage. Or your ph problem was blocking it out. Add a slight more cal mag or even some eposlm salts. 1 tsp per gallon. .

Yes to the temps I have the AC unit fan on constantly at low speed to move air and it cycles under low load. Only problem is it's drying my air pretty fast. Thanks for the tip about epsom salts. Will it affect PH?

Hi,
A lack of temperature differential between lights on and off will cause plants to not stretch as much. If you want your plants taller, try maybe 77 during the day and 70 at night.
Yellowing of the leaves (chlorosis) can also occur in MJ plants that don't get a temp differential.
But hey, bushy plants are not usually anythign to worry about I think.
Good luck.

Sweet I knew there was a reason for me to install a programmable thermostat when I built my room. I just didn't know what it was at the time. I'll give it a try thanks for the info! It will also drop my amp use. I opened my power bill yesterday and I started to laugh. It seems like every hobby I pick up thins my wallet!
