| I'm a new gardener and I'm having some problems and I know it is my fault somehow. I have started twelve new babies and they all looked good for awhile but as of now some have died and now the ones that looked really good are starting to turn brown on the tips of the leaves. I have them in a mixture of perilite, vermiculite, and potting soil. They are 1-2 inches below a florescent light. They are not very old, just now getting thier second set of leaves. They are inside in an outside building. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm affraid my babies are going to die. ![]() | ||

| Are the plants exsposed to cold temps, frost? If no then it could be many things. Some of these "Things" could be.... Overwater Overfertilize Lack of quality light What kind of potting soil? How old are the plants? What is the temp in the growing area. Are you watering? WHat kind of fert? If you want some answers you have to give some specific information. Otherwise we'll just be guessing. Reduce water ASAP. See if the plants improve. | ||

| My potting soil is Miracle Grow potting soil with the fertilizer ratting of .03-.01-.07 it is mixed with equal amounts of perilite and vermiculite. My plants are 2 1/2 weeks old about 1 1/2 inches tall. The temp gets pretty low but I made sure to bring them in the house if they call for freezing tempatures. I'm wattering with distilled water and I didn't have drain holes in the cups because I didn't have a pan to put them in, I have just reasently purchased a kitty litter box to put them in. Today I set them out in the direct sun light. I think that I should put them in a fresh mixture of soil. The mixture is left from last year and now the perilite as turned brown. I have some thansplanting solution (4-12-4) should I mix some of that up and use it if you reccomed I transplant? And when I water should I water from the top or will that mixture wick water good enough to just water in the pan? Thanks for all your help. | ||
