| Help needed here- I just don't know WHAT I'm doing wrong. I've read all the grow guides and tips, suggestions, etc, from this site and many others (all say same thing)- yet when I started with seed, they never came up after I germinated them. My current problem revolves around a little baby I found at the local convenience store- growing up right between the cracks, so I scooped it up and brought it home. It was 7", all nice and green and fleshy- now it's pale green, some leaves are yellow, some are brown/grey and crispy like fall leaves. I had it under a 150 watt grow light, about 1 1/2 feet away, now I have a 60 watt flourescent as I thought the wattage may have been too high. The soil and the plant seem constantly dry, yet I'm worried about overwatering. I have the plant in a long box planter that's about three feet long by 6 inches wide, and it's down by itself at one end- that's where I focus the light and the water. The soil is potting soil mixed with vermilite and organic compost. There are drainage holes in the bottom of the container. So, what is it? Too much wattage, or too little? Light too close to the plant, or too far away? Too much water, or too little? Too big of a container? I just don't know!! I'm getting frustrated, and worried- I feel like the universe kinda gave me this plant to give me another shot after I killed the 15 sprouts that I had , and now I'm bungling it! Please Help!! ButterflyDreams and Observer, would really like your input as well!! | ||

| If the soil is dry up to the first knuckle of your finger, add more water. Don't be so afraid of over watering that you under water. I know, it's hard. =) Also try getting some fertilizer and mix that in with the water. (Get the cheap stuff, it's just as good. My tub of Orchid Special 30-10-10 cost $1.99.) Be sure it includes the trace elements (those things that are usually 0.05% or whatever.) Try watering with that once, especially if it was simple potting soil. Though if you have some compost in there that should provide nutrients for a while.Don't worry about too much light, no such thing, as long as your plant isn't getting burned. Do a heat test with your hand at the top of the plant, if your hand gets uncomfortably warm, it's too hot, otherwise you're okay. As far as water intake goes, the simulation program I have seems to indicate that young plants will use about 250ml/day. I don't know about plants in "Real Life" as my current experience is limited solely by the simulation/game. But I would assume that they would be similar in water usage. (The simulation is VERY good..[This message has been edited by hyena (edited April 06, 2000).] | ||

| Nope 420, he's talking about HighGrow. It simulates plant growth and is pretty accurate. It's good for practicing before you try the real thing. One day in life is one day in the game. You can even make some seeds by pollinating your female(s) and trade them over the internet. For more info and the game download go to: http://www.geocities.com/slick_software/ Smoke on. | It's alive- ALIVE!! bwah-ha-ha... Really, it's doing so much better. I discovered that I have been *under* watering it, so I boosted the water and am currently watering with Epson Salt and Miracle Grow. While it looks much better- greener and "perkier", it isn't growing any taller!? Since I have no idea how old this plant is, I also don't know when to start the flowering process...
