| Well, she's been doing better lately, but now there's brown spots on the leaves on the top 3 or 4 leaves, and some leaves on the bottom are turning yellow/brown and getting "crunchy". There is no water landing on the top of the plant, and I don't foliar feed, so this is not a case of the water magnifying the water drops. Any clues as to what's causing this? DrChronic ![]() | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hmmm.. that sounds ok so far .... uhhhhh.... What about pH? Watering schedule? Ferts used at what strength? Any webs or other little nasties around? Where exactly are the spots forming on the leaves? Is it starting at the leaf edge and moving in or in between the leaf veins and spreading out? As you can see there quite a few scenarios that may cause spots on leaves. Overwatering, Lack of N, Mg, K or Z, high temps, light burn, pH or Insect attacks. LB

| I don't know the pH, as I don't have a pH tester- yet. I water once-twice a week, soaking it well and letting it dry out good between waterings. Every other/every third watering I give it some Miracle Grow, about half strength of what the box suggests. Haven't seen any webs, although I did spot one tiny little spider about two weeks ago, which I squashed quickly. Have seen no evidence of bugs since, and the brown spots just started 3 days ago. The spots are just there, evenly distributed. They're not really close to the veins, not really close to the edge- pretty much just even throughout the blades. I'm ready to start flowering- should I wait on that until this is resolved? DrChronic ![]() | ||

| I have similar problems. What am I doing wrong? LIGHT: Growing outdoors. TEMPERATURE: low 70's in the morning and mid 80'S in the afternoon PH: unknown WATERING: Every 2-3 days or until top inch of soil is dry SOIL: Miricle Grow potting mix (with Fert. in mix) so no need for ferts for at least 2 months. BUG PROBLEMS: I have had these little white bugs that kept jumping around from plant to plant. I solved that problem. I am now experiencing problems with another bug...it is a nat-like bug that crawls up and down the plant rather quickly and jumping around from plant. I have seen a couple of the bugs resting on the growth tips and younger leaves. I have notice over a week that chunks of leaves were missing and holes were made. Some areas of the leaves were transparent. I sprayed the plants with Schults insecticide made for Roses, Fruits, and Vegitables. The next day I noticed the new growth tips were wrinkling up bad and notice more brown spots and dead dry leaves. Could it be the spray? I have heard about the soap solution method...1/4 sunlight dish soap per gallon of water...will try this tomarrow. ***The browness is between leaf veins and spreading out fast! I brake off the affected areas of the leaves. Also alot of my older bottom leaves are yellowing quickly. Half of my plants are approximatly 2 months old and 12"-15" in hight. Other half are about 1 month old and 6"-9" in hight. Could be a fert problem? PLEASE HELP ![]() peace, GL [This message has been edited by greenlife (edited May 15, 2000).] | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am leaning towards pH for both of you until I know what it is .... I mean I could be wrong I'm no pro ... But just as an example, I bought a blueberry tree (yes, a REAL one )and was having the same problem. Brown spots forming on the leaves and deform leaf growth. I then looked up the ph for the plant and this thing wants VERY acid soil like at 4.0-5.5 the soil was at about 7.0. i lowered the acidity of the soil and the growth perked up and the spots are all gone after 1 week ....MJ likes a more neutral soil slightly on the acid side like aroung 6.5.What I am getting at is that the wrong pH for a plant will cause problems on the uptake of the nutrients (nutrient lock out) so pH is important to pay attention to even outside. If the area you live has acid soil then you need to compensate for that before you plant. You can do it during as I had to do but if you knwo before hand it is much easier to deal with. LB
