| Hey guys. I'm still catchin up after my hiatus. This came in a cople of months ago and it's followed by a recent update. Thought we might lend this guy a hand. ~original message dated Wed 31 May 2000 ~
quote:
Hopefully this finds you with a healthy girl. Sorry I was off-line so long. Personal BS and all. The pointy side is the root side. The plant was starting upside down, but if you left it alone, they usually straighten themselves out. Let me know if I can help more. Life is far to short to miss the small things that bring a smile. Take time each day to stop and listen to the grass grow. Its been about 3 months or so, and the plant has gotten to be about 3" or so tall. It is still up to a maximum of 3 leaflets on each leaf, but the leaves are getting larger. Lately the lower leaves have been browning and falling off. Im sure this is niether healthy or natural for the plant. until a week ago, the flowerpot i kept my plant in was about and inch or so in radius. then i moved it to another flower pot that was about 2" or so in radius. For a few days, i had solved my browning problem and felt very smart. but it has started again, and the leaves are browning and wilting. What should i do? I thought it might have been a nitrogen difficiency, but i added a little piss to their diet and it didnt help. Maybe its the soil it is in (100% topsoil)? This is my only and firstplant and i want it to yeild me at least some good buds. The other problem i am having is that little white dots appeared on some of the leaves of the plant. They have stopped spreading....but how do i get rid of em or prevent future outbreaks? and furthermore, what are they from? Thanks alot for your time and with helping me on my plant. I appreciate it greatly. -KeEp On TrUcKiNg- -pEaCe-

quote:
then i moved it to another flower pot that was about 2" or so in radius

Whoa dude! A 3 month old plant in a 4 inch pot is definitely root bound. Get that girl into a 2-3 gallon pot ASAP! ![]() Light ferts and a very light soil mix will help the new root as will adding H2o@ to the mix. (that's hydrogen preoxide) Add 5 capfuls of standard drugstore H2o2 with each gallon of mix. Read, Read, Read. Anybody else? Oh Kingpin, what is the rest of your setup?? Smile. BD ![]() More later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | More info as follows:
quote:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2000 05:26:00 GMT To: bd@hempcultivation.com Cc: Subject: Re: RE: need help with seed, please read on.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hey i appreciate u taking ur time and answering my questions. thanks again for posting my whinings so others can read and learn. but i do have a few problems: 1. i live in a city, my backyard isnt that big, so i have to keep the pot to a small size to keep it from being spotted. Ill try again to upgrade the pot if possible. i bought some rooting agent and that helps when transplanting so i dont have to worry about that. i cant really grow inside, but ima try to move it near a window where i give it more sunlight and privacy. Is there any other means i can keep my plant happy BESIDES reloaction into a lareger pot? by the way, my setup gows as follows: a planting pot 6" in diameter, 4" deep. plant food sticks once a month, growing outside getting only natural light. The plant pot is sitting above the entrace doorway to the house (trust me, its sitting fine). Water about 2-3 times a day. Its about 3 months old. 3leaflets per leaf still. In vegetative stage and growing nicely (about a leaf per 2days). Its about 4-5" tall. one final question that i never understood the answer to: what/how is pruning? i have read many articles and giudes telling about pruning, kolas, topping, things like that but im very confused. I have also asked many people which made me twice as confused. what do people mean by pruning? actually cutting off branches and leaves???. or is it pinching the buds off??? what is it??? how it is done??? please explain to me this: what exactly does pruning mean? where do make the cuts for pruning? when do u prune? is topping simply cutting off the top of the plant? what does topping do for the plant? what does buds and pruning have to do with each other? how much do i cut? so i should take a razor and cut my beatiful plant?!?!?! please clear the air, im VERY confused. THANK YOU so much for your time. I appreciate the time and effort u have taken to read and reply to my queries very much. Im very appreciative of ur help. Thank you so much for ur time and help. -PeAcE-

Ok here I go. a planting pot 6" in diameter, 4" deep. plant food sticks once a month, growing outside getting only natural light ... Its about 3 months old. 3leaflets per leaf still. In vegetative stage and growing nicely (about a leaf per 2days). At three months old your lady should be filling a one gallon pot with roots. ![]() The three leaf pattern and slow growth (believe me one every two days is slow) are cause by lack of root area/structure. If you are worried about the pot's height just use a low, wide box. It's Volume we're thinking of here. Imagine if your stomach were cramped into a walnut shell from the time your were a little kid. You'd show some pretty weird growth too. one final question that i never understood the answer to: what/how is pruning? Pruning is simply the removal of the growth tips in order to A.) Lower height and slow growth. B.) Increase number of growth tips. (normal reason for cutting) Using a small pair of scissors snip the very tip of the plant off. Cutting slightly higher than the beginning of the next branch will induce more branching. Look at your plant. With your fingers carefully seperate the very last leaves from the stem. Once they are isolated, cut the little buggers off. After a couple of days of healing you will begin to see TWO new shoots forming. You have effectively dounbled your harvest. AS LONG AS THEY HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE ROOTS sorry. Hope this helps some. Anyone else have a theory.?. Smile. ![]() | sounds like he's going for bansai style, not really production ... triming the rootball will help for a few months .. i'd say tho a 6 inch squre pot minimum, smallest i've seen for a longterm bansai mother .. and cut down on watering .. [2-3 times a day??] can you get bud from a bansai? or are you limited to shoots for clones ? doesnt' seem worth the trouble keepin it that small...[otherthan clones] | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Update dated Sep. 02.
quote:
Subject: Update on my plant just incase ur interested. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well i looked over the past messages ive sent u and thought that i might wanna update u on a few things, no biggies, but worth mentioning: 1. my plant is actually 5-6" now. 2. it has grown a pair of 5-pointed leafs and is growing another pair still. 3. the browning of the leaves has stopped (for now....) 4. still the same size container though (im trying to transplant to a bigger pot, but i just cant yet) 5. i cut back on watering. 1-2 times a day, not as much water as b4. 6. i tried pruning (it didnt work), herse what i did: i took a razor and snipped off one of the lower leaves halfway between the leaf and part that attaches to the main stem (you would call that.......a shoot?a branch?)it didnt work, i did something wrong, plz tell me where i goofed (try to use as few gardening terms as possible plz, im still dumb on this whole pruning concept). 7. i have a question: each time a new set of leaves emerges, a number of days later i notice a small cluster of leaves growing at that node where the leaf's branch goes from. what are those leaves for? what are they called? 8. final inquery/update: how much yield can i possibly get if i let my baby grow to a 1' max? how about 1'1/2"? 2'? i just wanna get a good estimate, so i can determine about how tall i want my plant to be (remember i have done basically no pruning thus far, and will prolly do only a little in the future) thank you so much for your time and help and posting this so others can weigh in thier opinions aswell. many thanks, uve been a great help. -PeAcE-

I'll jump into it later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well I guess Farris has the day off again. Here goes. 1. my plant is actually 5-6" now. Good. Growth means she likes what you are doing. ![]() 2. it has grown a pair of 5-pointed leafs and is growing another pair still. ![]() 3. the browning of the leaves has stopped (for now....) ![]() 4. still the same size container though (im trying to transplant to a bigger pot, but i just cant yet) ![]() If you are worried about the height of the plant tie it down. Transplant into a low wide container. Do not be trapped into thinking you have to use something that is found in the garden department of Home DePot. If you know anyone who works at a restaurant, a bus-tub would be perfect. Remember, it's the volume of the soil (room) that the roots have to expand into that determines the growth and health of the plant. IF you can't use a 5-gallon bucket, (roughly 3 cubic feet) use a tupperware underbed organizer ( 9" x 18-24" x 36 -60" or whatever).... ![]() Use your imagination. Very few days go by that I don't see something that would be perfect for one type of grow or another. ![]() 5. i cut back on watering. 1-2 times a day, not as much water as b4. With a larger container you will be able to cut you water/feeding schedule to once every day or every other day. Basical you have a hand watered hydroponic setup with a bonsai twist. 6. i tried pruning (it didnt work), herse what i did: i took a razor and snipped off one of the lower leaves halfway between the leaf and part that attaches to the main stem (you would call that.......a shoot?a branch?)it didnt work, i did something wrong, plz tell me where i goofed (try to use as few gardening terms as possible plz, im still dumb on this whole pruning concept). Re-read what I put above. Right now don't worry about anything but getting her to grow. As I said, if you are worried about her being seen from below keep her tied down to 8 - 10" from the roof. It's easy, a little twine (hemp of course) and a staple gun and you're set. 7. i have a question: each time a new set of leaves emerges, a number of days later i notice a small cluster of leaves growing at that node where the leaf's branch goes from. what are those leaves for? what are they called? Those will someday be branches. The five bladed leaf you described earlier is called a Fan leaf. The newest set of leaves on any branch is the growth tip. Each of these growth tips will form a bud (flower) when the light drops to 12 hours or less. ( That of course is an average. I have a couple of ladies who start flowering at 14 hours. ) 8. final inquery/update: how much yield can i possibly get if i let my baby grow to a 1' max? how about 1'1/2"? 2'? i just wanna get a good estimate, so i can determine about how tall i want my plant to be (remember i have done basically no pruning thus far, and will prolly do only a little in the future) Unfortunately, unless you live in the central Lattitudes you will probably see mimimal or no harvest. Where are you located? How long until the sunrise/sunset (day) equals 12 hours or less. ( Sun comes up at 7 and goes down at 7.) Concentrate more now on learning what she wants and watch the changes as you give it to her. Sheesh. Smiles. BD ![]() | ||
