Im not sure if I should post this in the "Nursery" or here... so Im going to try here. I have a plant that is quite far along in budding. The problem is : The fan leaves are turning scaly, brown, and brittle (where its brown). I know the lower fan leaves turn yellow, then brown and fall off. This is definately not that. The lower part of the leaf (near the stem) is green and healthy looking. Even some of the tips of the leaves are green, until the scalyness really kills the leaf. Any thoughts?

![]() | Here is another thought... Have the plants grown too close to the lights, thereby getting to hot and burning? Sometimes I get a little lazy and don't move my lights when I should. resulting in some browning and dryness. good luck!

![]() | Welp, Im using organic fert. (fish emulsion and chicken sh*t)... the plants are about 10 inches from the lights (Im using 3 100w hps)... so I dont think they are too close.. The thing that concerns me is the Scaling (scales) on the leaves. It looks like an insect attack, as the scaling usually starts out as a tiny brown dot, and gets larger untill it engulfs most of the leaf. Turning more and more scaly as it goes. I know for a fact that its not over fertilization becasue they havent been fert. in about a month, and never with chemicals (they taste bad in the finished bud, especially Miracle Grow... but thats another message.) It could be some sort of insect... but I've never noticed anything other than black ants (they usually dont bother the plants tho... actually, they clean the grow room quite nicely by picking up fallen leaves and such)... But they havent been around as much this time, as in the past. Also, this affliction seems to be affecting only 2 plants out of 14 or so. I dont want it to spread. ok rock on

| I agree about the chemical ferts. I just brought that up because so many people around here use them and browning leaf tips are common when they're overused. I'm glad you're using organics. If you think you have an insect problem you might want to spray them with soapy water or tobacco juice. I've been fortunate enough not to have dealt with insects so far (except once there was a moth invasion), so hopefully someone will reply that has had symptoms like yours. | ||

![]() I was hoping to stay way from tobacco, since I just kicked the stuff 6 months ago. I havent had a cigarette since January 4, 2002.... but I've read that it'll do wonders for getting rid of the bugs. I've really never seen this before. Its like some sort of weird athlete's foot on the plant. Anyway, thanks for the tip... Im going to try the nicotine juice... but since they only have a week or two left before they are finished budding, Im not going to worry about it.. That is unless it pops up again in the next batch or on my mother plants. thanks again.
