![]() | For no physical reason, (i.e-i fell on it for example), the main stem of my plant at the bottom is starting to split as well as the left hand bud stem at the first internode...it this the cause of insects or nutrient problems/over watering water???????? The plants are outside in soil(compost)....the plant looks very healthy but the main stem is split in the centre........HOW CAN THIS BE???????? the split stem also bulges at the point. -cheers.......please help ![]()

SD have you seen any threads on suppercropping or low strees training (LST). Use the search button or look under ScrOG/SoG/Training techniques. I would put a link here for you but I dont know how. what your image looks like to me is what happens when your stem has been twisted or bent and the following stem splitting result is what happens when the stem begins to heal or has healed. My last grow, I experimented w/ a technique that I saw in one of Smokinravs(suppercropping) or Delta9420 (LST training) posts. He would twist the stem until he heard a slight snap of the hurd (about 1-1/1 x's full rotation). The result would be a strange twisted stem. Ususally the stem winds up growing thicker and stronger in this area. This is also supposed to help in the formation of larger buds during flowering since you have a thicker stem therby being able to provide the plant w/ more nutrients or something along that lines. I would not worry if I were you unless you saw the plant leaning over and looking wilted. THis could be a good thing for the overall out come of your harvest. I would do some research on LST or suppercropping for more info. Good Growing GL73

Is this what you see? This is cause by the Gall Moth, an insect that lays its eggs in the stems of wild flowers (commonly golden rod). The larve of the moth live in the stem and create a bulge as it grows and feeds on the plant.
