My friend has some young "girls" that have been mysteriously dying. Four 5 node (2-4 inch) plants have died in the same bucket in the last week. Setup: 1. Hydroponics "Krusty" Bucket set up w/ GH Drip Rings. Plantlets are in Grow plugs and then planted in buckets with Grodan Rocks. 2. 3 part GH Nutes (1/4 strength) 3. Temp: 68-86 F 4. Hum 50% 5. Lights: Dual Ballast 175 W MH and 150 W Sodium Vapor. 6. PH of Buckets: 7.0 7. 1/2 Tablespoon of 3% H202 / 3 gallons / day Sorry no pictures. She figured out that the first 3 "Mysterious" deaths were when she plugged the pump ring on that bucket into the Flowering room timer. 12 hours of no water = a dried out grow plug and a very injured plant.Except NONE of the 4 casualties survived and none took on water after rewatering. We have seen underwatered plants before. They droop, leaves fall over etc. But so long as the leaves are not crispy, and remain green, watering usually brings the plant back The fourth death is even more of a mystery. After she fixed the problem with the timer, the next day (yesterday) another plant was found dead, looking exactly the same as the first 3 casualties. Except this time the drip ring was working fine and was on the right timer! Could it be a Poltergeist loose in the grow room? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

On another note- why run at a pH of 7? That's a full point (at the least too high)... try running the pH between 5.3 and 6.0, it's a world of difference. tell me anything else that you noticed -LFD

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the reply. Your point on PH is right on. (Thanks Stoney) Still, Ph is a pain with multiple buckets and she doesn't routinely check it. The fourth plant had mostly white with some yellowing in the roots. She says the first 3 looked similar. BTW: I think I figured out what happened to her. The mystery was that the smaller plants in the bucket were NOT dying while the slightly larger more healthy ones WERE dying. Answer, the smaller plants did not suck the grow plugs completely dry during the 12 hours of no drip while the larger ones did. Hmm, what about putting the gro plugs in larger rockwool cubes before putting the plant in the gro rocks? Wouldn't that make the drip less effective? can't ignore such a key factor and dont think you'll pay the price Quote:
you could try bigger plugs or get another timer and increase the feedings on the larger onez

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just had to stop in and mourn the loss of your friends 4 daughters. It is always a sad day when I hear of a baby dieing. I am definately with these guys. PH is a very important part of growing hydro. Other than that though, it sounds like a pretty ideal setup. I heard from a buddy once to not use sodium vapor lights. He didn't really say why, just not to use them. He has never steered me wrong so I never question his authority. Tell your friend I said 'better luck on her next grow'. ![]()
