Yellow spots on leaves...
permalink

Hi
I've got 4 plants which are about 2.5 wks old. yesterday, on one of my plants, i noticed some yellow spots on the older leaves. today i woke up to check on the ill plant to notice there is now a section of the leaf that is a very dark, dark green color surrounding one of the yellow spots. all of my plants are under a 400W MH which is sitting about a foot over their heads. temps are usually around 80-85 degrees, im not sure of the RH but i do have a tupperware container filled with water wicking moisture into the atmosphere. i have a shi**y PH tester from homedepot (rapitest) which reads my soil at 6.5-6.9.
Thanks in advance, if i haven't provided enough information to diagnose my plant please ask; as i am a newbie gardner.

Hello and welcome to HC.Com. You will find tons of different views from tons of different growers. But first lets just try to understand the basics. By the sound (Text) of it you are experience Necrosis- death and discoloration of tissue

Common reasons for this problem is Lack of Nitrogen when the leaf turns yellow. Lack of nitrogen can come from a Imbalanced PH or Imbalanced Soil Amenities. Or just plain lack of food.

My questions to you are:

1.Have you feed them anything if so what?
2.What size container are they in?
3.Seed or clone?
4.If seed has the first set of leaves yellowed of and died?
5. Is it upper leaves or lower leaves doing this?
6. Does it seem to hop around from lower to upper or does it just stay in the lower vicinity?
7.What type of soil do you use?
8.What is your soil mix? (Perlite, Vermiculite, Peat moss, Ect...)

This will help us help you a little better.

Hey there firsttimer, thanks for the warm welcome to HC.com.
Now to answer your questions!

(1) yes, i have fed them a very dilute solution of schultz 20-20-20 plant food 2 days ago, the fert solution also has 2 1/2 tbsp of epsom salt added.
(2)Currently 2 plants are in 8oz plastic cups, 1 is in a 3.5 gal bucket, and the sick plant is in a 44oz cup.
(3)Seed.
(4)yes on 2 of the plants the cotyldons have completely fallen off, as for the other 2 they have yellowed completely but are still attached.
(5)symptoms have appeared on the lower set of leaves.
(6)yellowing hasnt appeared on any of the newer growth.
(7)the soil i use is unferted cheapo from walmart
(8)soil mix is about 20% perlite 20% peat moss and 60% soil

Thanks for your reply firsttimer, your help is invaluable

I have that ph tester here. I could never get it to work properly, It's always on 7 No matter what I test it always reads 7. I have to sneak the good tester from the lab about once a week to test my ph.

Yikes!! That's way too much Epsom salt. 1 Teaspoon per gallon is recommended for a continuous feeding of Magnesium. But If im correct the Shultz should have some in there. And you shouldn't need Epsom salt but 1 or 2 times during Flowering. Normally its to fix a Mg Deficiency. I would flush!

Anything in cups. You need to Transplant! Figure for how big you want to grow them you need 1 gallon of soil to 1 foot of plant. The yellowing could very well be Root Bound.

The Peat Moss you used can and will lower PH in soil. But it seems like your PH is fine with your PH tester. Although you can never tell with one of those. So I would work on Transplanting them and the ones you don't transplant flush! So they don't have all that Epsom salt in them. And don't use that stuff again. I hope you have read the grow guide. Its a huge help!!!
Anyother questions feel free to ask.
