Mistake???
permalink

One of my babies are flowering I think and I dont want it to!!! lol

Im seeing a little football shaped thing on my plant, and some little circle things that look like they're gonna be football shaped things. I'm assuming this is the beginning stages of flowering (and its a male??)...

Anyways... I had my light on 12/12 since birth on all my plants, and I decided to switch over to 24-0... would this cause it to flower? It's only one plant doing this out of the 13 I have..

any help is a big thanks in advance!

Also, I have a few plants that are about a foot tall and 40 days old, but they only have total of 6 leaves on them (going on 8) is this normal?

Jervis, Hi and welcome.

1. You definitly have a male there.
2. It is flowering because you have been growing it with a 12/12 light schedule.
3. you may not be aware of this but we have a Grow Guide that will teach you most of what you need to know. You will learn how to grow and not make the basic mistakes, like beginning your grow with a 12/12 light schedule and how much lighting you need. It is really fun when things go well.

Best of luck.

It can be a bit confusing in the beginning. Stick with our guide and go to the grow journals section. I am assuming you are soil growing so check those grows out. You will find that you will learn a lot, especially from the pictures.

Mystic, yes your right about reading the forums, it's all i've been doin the past month or so...

This is my second grow (and yes its soil).. my first grow was just pathetic.. I had 9 plants in a litter box under two 4 foot fluor's trying to flower them, lol.

Also, I've noticed that in the grow section peoples plants are twice the size of mine.. (not in height) but in actual leaf production, like I said earlier I have two plants that are about 9/12 inches tall with only 6/8 leaves and I see these other peoples with tons more than mine... (they're at about 42 days old)

Is this because Im using bag seed? or because I had them on 12/12 from birth? If light was my problem, then will they start to produce more leaves/stems now that I have them back on 24/0?

and yes, I'd like to know if this one plant will go back into veg now that I have them back on 24/0, however should I just toss the one that went into flowering cuz it's male?

jervis,

I know this is going to read like am being a little hard on you, but you will be glad in the end.

1 - Read the posting guideline for this forum. You have provided very little information which really makes it impossible to give you quality advice. My response was based on some inference deduced by your comments, not information.

2 - Your future grow problems will be solved if you read and study the grow guide. As long as you are at it, buy a book on the subject too. I bought four and read them twice before ever attempting to grow or posting here. I also spent a lot of time reading the grow journals, taking notes, and generally planning a grow in my head. To learn I did my first grow with bagseed.

I can tell you simply do not have the basic know how it takes to successfully grow. I would love for you to have a successful grow and i promise you, you do too.

3 - If you will at lease answer all the questions in the Nursery posting guidelines I will do what I can to tell you how to save this grow. I doubt it is too late.

Fair enough? I'll check back on ya'

Your plants are definetly smaller in size because of the 12 hours of light they get, but there could be other things such as the type of light, type of soil, and types of nutrients, type of environment, and then in the end maybe just the plant itself.

I've had some bagseed going for a few weeks now and they've been growing faster than I've seen before and I think its just the natural sunlight they get and the high nitrogen soil they are in. If everything else is right you should be able to grow pot with any bagseed.

Are your plants just taller instead of wider? Maybe your light is too far away from the plants so that they stretch for it.

And yea man give us some more details like mystic said. What kind of lights? Soil? Nutes? Temp? Environment? to start. Dont have much to work with.

Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse meee mystic I just got tired of typing the same thing everytime I had a question and considering u've helped me before I would assume you've seen all my information that i've posted before, but here it is again.

1. Are you growing in Soil or using a Hydro system?
Soil

Indoor or outdoor?
Indoor

2. How old are your plants?
About 40 days

Are you growing Clones or from Seed?
Seed

3. How tall are your plants?
Some are smaller than the others, but the two tallest are about 9 inches.

4. What size containers are they planted in?
Different sizes (not sure) --- one HUGE 12/15" pot, one or two 8 or 9" pots, and the remainders are 1 two liter bottle, and 3 or 4 four to six inch pots.

5. What is your Soil mix composed of?
Pearlite/Sand/Soil/Peatmoss --- Didn't really foucs on a ratio, I just mixed everything up pretty evenly and ensured good drainage.

Are you using pre-fertilized potting soil?
Yes, however I read somewhere that most commercial soils have enough ferts for about 3/4 weeks of plant life, so I've fertilized once so far.

6. How often do you water?
Every 3 or 4 days, I found out I was over watering and now I just kind of wait for the plants to tell me that they're thirsty (or the touching the soil trick).

- What are you watering with?
Tap water

7. Are you using fertilizers?
yes

- Chemical or Organic? What kind or brand?
Organic(fish emulsion), the brand is "Alaska Fish Fertilizer" and I got it at my local Wal-Mart.

- What is the NPK value of the fertilizer?
5-1-1 (I read somewhere that vegging plants like Nitrogen)

- How often do you fertilize?
Once so far (not sure when to do it next), the bottle says once every 3 to 4 weeks.

- When did you start ferting? (what age was the plant)
About 30 days old.

8. What kind of lights are you using? (HPS, MH, Fluoroescent, Halogen, Incandescent "Plant Lights")
Fluoroescents
Incandescent

How many lights?
3 total, two 4 foot fluoroescents doubled up (a standard "shop light" I guess), and one Incandescent next to that (it covers 2 or 3 plants effectivly I think). Update: I now have two 4 foot fluo's, one 3 foot fluo "plant light",the incandecent "plant light", and two more two foot fluo's (so I beefed up the lights) and I still have room for another 3 footer if needed.

How many watts or lumens? about 200w now

How close are the lights to the plants?
I keep the Flu's pretty close because they dont get hot (about an inch or so), but I keep the incandescent about 6/8 inches from the 3 mj's that it's covering.

9. What size is your grow space?
It's about 13x10

10. What is the temperature in your grow space?
It's holding steady at 72-75

11. What is the pH of the soil?
Don't have pH tester thingies yet.

12. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
One ant (very small) and one spider (a little bigger than the ant)

13. How much experience do you have growing?
This is my second grow, this is a big step up for me, considering I tried to flower 9 10 inch plants from a kitty litter box, lol.

maybe i'll try to get it on some cheap site and put a link in my signature everytime I have a grow going..

p.s. No offense on my end.

p.s.s. in addition to my previous questions, where can I get a PH tester thing(s)? would it be like in the fishtank section of a walmart or something?
