Exclamation Can marigolds repel spider mites?
permalink

Hey everyone, haven't been on for a while, but I need help. For the past 8 months, I've been battling spider mites, and have begun to lose. In the beginning, pyrethrins and soapy water killed them real dead, but one or two would survive, and repopulate the plants. Thanks to the process of natural selection, I've gotten myself a strain of mites that is impervious to pyrethrins and soapy water. If they don't get washed off by the spray, they just wade around in it until it dries.

I've got a hydro plant that's 46 days into flowering (out of 70), and suffering greatly from the mites. I've been squishing them by hand, but there's just too many leaves to get them all, and the hundreds of eggs on each leaf are quite disheartening to my efforts. (the plant's about 4 square feet) So, since it somehow contracted a few aphids as well, would marigolds have any effect on the spider mites, or do I just have to keep manually removing them and hope for the best. (Luckily, they aren't on any of the buds or bud leaves, probably due to the large amount of resin that's acted as a flytrap for most larger insects, which means predators are out of the question, if there are any for spider mites.)

So, will marigolds do me any good for the spider mites?

Thanks

K T

Sorry, but not going to happen. Marigolds MAY discourage the first mite or two from colonizing but that point has long since passed. AVID (abermectin) is your surest kill for spider mites. That is a choice you must make. It has specific food crops that it is approved for use but Cannabis is not one of them. I have had spider mites at 3 separate occasions in the past 2 years. I caught them early and doused them with Avid. They all die.

And I forgot to say welcome back stranger!
